CHARSADDA:

A house was destroyed after a gang of suspected extortionists lobbed hand grenades inside  in Dargai, Charsadda on Monday.

Sardheri police official Saeed Khan said Mujahid Khan, a resident of Dargai, filed a case with the police stating the accused – Khalid Iqbal, Mazhar and Subhanullah – who were allegedly involved in extortion, demanded Mujahid give them Rs0.5 million. The accused had also reportedly threatened Mujahid if he refused to pay the sum.

At around 2am on Monday, the accused allegedly lobbed two hand grenades inside Mujahid Khan’s house, partially damaging it. They then opened fire at the residence, but fortunately no human loss was reported.

Mujahid added the gang was involved in extortion in the surrounding areas as well. However, no one filed a case against them and would rather give them money, he claimed. Police raided their houses and arrested Subhanullah and Mazhar while Khalid managed to escape.
