RAWALPINDI:
The police have registered a case against one of its officials for submitting a false inquiry report in a fake degree case against a ruling party member of the Punjab Assembly from Gujar Khan.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had asked the Punjab police chief to initiate an inquiry against MPA Raja Shaukat Aziz Bhatti of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for submitting a false degree with the ECP.

The City Police Officer (CPO) had appointed Sub-Inspector (SI) Saghir Ali of the Gujar Khan police as investigation officer (IO).

Sources in the police department on condition of anonymity said that the IO had submitted a false inquiry report with the CPO, claiming that the degree of the MPA was genuine. The IO was reported to be on good terms with the MPA, the sources said.

An official of the Gujar Khan Police told ‘The Express Tribune’ that since the registration of the case against the IO, they were receiving threats from the MPA.

The Gujar Khan police station officer (SHO), Raja Musadiq said that Saghir was still at large and soon “we will take him into custody”.

“Musadiq will no more be the SHO of the Gujar Khan PS, as he has drawn the ire of the MPA after lodging the FIR against the IO,” said a police official requesting anonymity. Despite repeated attempts, MPA Bhatti could not be contacted for comments.
