District budget: ‘Rs5.35 billion for education’

The EDO said Rs40 million was allocated for pensions.

BAHAWALPUR: A Rs7.557 billion budget for 2013-14 was approved for Bahawalpur district government in a meeting presided over by District Coordination Officer Sajid Zafar here on Saturday. Finance Executive District Officer Rana Sakhawat Ali said Rs429 million had been fixed for the ongoing development projects. He said the education budget had been raised by 8 per cent to Rs5.35 billion. The EDO said the Health Department’s budget had been raised by 5 per cent to Rs578 million. Out of this, he said, Rs108.5 million had been provided for purchasing medicines and Rs6.2 million for dialysis. “Rs43.3 million has been allocated for the school management council...Rs8 million for veterinary medicines and Rs15 million for the immunisation of cattle,” he said. The EDO said Rs40 million was allocated for pensions. He said, “Rs6.2740 billion is being provided for salaries of 21,057 officials working for the district government.” A Rs462.7685 million budget for 2013-14 was approved for TMA Sadiqabad in a meeting presided over by Administrator Chaudhry Muhammad Farooq Qamar here on Saturday. Qamar said Rs323 million had been fixed for non-developmental works. He said Rs120 million had been provided for developmental works. He praised the performance of the accounts branch staff as well as other staffers and announced a bonus one month’s salary for them.
