BAHAWALPUR: “Women should be allotted land in Cholistan as they head many families,” said participants at a joint press conference organised by the Al Sadiq Desert Welfare Organisation and ActionAid Pakistan here on Saturday.

Cholistan residents, Najma Naureen, Aneela Dawood and Rustam Kulyaar said the Cholistan Development Department had recently invited applications for land allotment. They said the Category A of the notification issued included the canal water lands. These, they said, would be auctioned. They said Categories B and C included barren lands which would be allotted to those from Cholistan who had cast votes in 2008 elections.

The participants said that applications should also be accepted from women as women were equally responsible for Cholistan’s development.
