Risk of diabetes 9.6m children either overweight or obese: Envoy
There is a need to promote awareness on prevention of diabetes and issues related to childhood obesity
ISLAMABAD:
There is a need to promote awareness on prevention of diabetes and issues related to childhood obesity. This was said by the Danish ambassador on Wednesday during a visit to the SOS Children’s Village, said a press release issued by the Danish embassy.
“It is estimated that obesity has tripled and blood pressure doubled in Pakistan since 2009,” said Ambassador Ole E Moesby.
“This makes 9.6 million children in Pakistan either overweight or obese, out of which diabetes is one of the most common chronic conditions to affect these children,” he said.
The Danish ambassador also met teachers, families and children and spoke to them about how to improve life quality through good healthcare. He also spoke about general health issues among children and the importance of establishing collaboration between teachers, parents and organisations in creating awareness on prevention of diabetes.
