ISLAMABAD: A young man was killed on Tuesday when a speeding water tanker ran over him in Diplomatic Enclave in the jurisdiction of the Secretariat Police Station. The investigation officer (IO) Sub-Inspector Ghulam Sarwar told The Express Tribune that the victim, identified as Syed Hamid Ali, a resident of Larkana, Sindh, was riding back home on his motorcycle when the bowser supplying water to the US embassy hit him at a U-turn near the embassy. Ali died on the spot. His body was shifted to Polyclinic and was handed over to his relatives after post-mortem. The IO said the driver, identified as Chaudhry Zaheer, has been arrested and the tanker impounded. However, no FIR has thus far been lodged. The police officer said that no application from the relatives of the deceased has been received so far nor any contact made by the embassy. An official of the police station, requesting anonymity said that the police had written to the embassy to change the driver. “He has been fined several times for driving recklessly,” he said. He said no action was taken against him despite the complaint due to which a precious life was wasted.
