PESHAWAR: A producer by the name of Shaukat attacked Pashto actor Bushra with acid after she allegedly refused to marry him, reported Express News on Saturday.

According to 18 year-old Bushra, already-married producer Shaukat entered her house last night and threw acid on her when she refused to marry him.

"A man climbed the wall of our house in the early hours, threw acid on my sister and fled," Bushra's brother, Pervez Khan told AFP.

A local police official, Sultan Khan also confirmed the incident.

The teen was immediately taken to Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar where Dr Suhail Ahmad said she had suffered 33 percent burn injuries, on her face and shoulder, but was in a stable condition.

Her brother Pervez Khan has lodged a complaint against the local TV drama producer, Shaukat Khan.

Actor Bushra is known to star in local Pashto dramas and stage performances.

Popular Pakistani singer Ghazala Javed, 24, was shot dead  by gunmen  as she left a beauty salon in Peshawar last year over a dispute with her ex-husband.

Acid attacks are common in Pakistan with scores of such assaults taking place each year.

@ Haris chaudhry - as female pukhtana mashAllah none of my male relatives have ever treated in the manner you have stated so before you go and make a broad generalisation on a whole community - think first.

What happened to bushra is not good, but if you work in an industry of daman that is the sort of people you will come across.

The type of place you sit that is the type of people you will mix with, maybe we should all think of that and then incidents like this would not happen, why was Bushra's family not protecting her and putting her in situation where she can meet filthy characters like this same with ghazala javed. Truth is, in these cases both the men and women are from indecent backgrounds so they behave indecently with each other and do stupid things like this.

Lets focus on real people, whose real stories need to be told. Not daman bazari khalaq.

@ Haris Chaudhrt: "as ‘unwanted’ sex compared to a male at birth". Not any more. The male to female ratio is increasing and is now at 110 men to 100 women, and probably much higher than this among Pakhtuns. A time will come when female children will be more valued than males, if not already.
