The Lahore High Court on Friday dismissed a writ petition seeking the disqualification of 34 members of the Senate and National and Provincial Assemblies for allegedly abetting former president Pervez Musharraf in taking several unconstitutional steps.
Petitioner Wasim Ahmed submitted that Musharraf had been barred from participating in the May 11 elections for violating the Constitution, but surprisingly 34 members of the assemblies and the senate that had helped him in his actions had been allowed to participate.
The court ruled that the petition was not maintainable as the petitioner had not raised the objection when the nomination papers of the 34 candidates were filed with the election commission. The court further pointed out that a case of high treason was pending against Musharraf in the Supreme Court.
