Razed to the ground: Primary school for boys blown up

It was destroyed by explosives planted along the boundary wall.

A state-run primary school was destroyed by unidentified militants in Tamanzai area of Pandyali tehsil late Thursday night.


This is the second time Boys Primary School, Wali Khan has been targeted. It was earlier damaged in a similar attack by militants. This time, however, it was destroyed by explosives planted along the boundary wall, said a political administration official of lower Mohmand sub-division Ekka Ghund.

Later, political administration official Maqsoodul Hasan and levies personnel reached the site with sniffer dogs and launched a search operation.

More than a 100 schools in Mohmand Agency have been blown up by militants in the last five years. Of these more than 60 have been in Safi tehsil while Pandyali is considered to be relatively peaceful. The government has started reconstruction of some of the destroyed schools with the help of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) government, with about 24 under construction in various areas. The Pakistan Army has also restored some schools in Safi and Bazai sub-divisions.
