Exempted Products: Retailers warned against misusing GST

FBR Chairman says all heads of Large Taxpayer Unit, Regional Tax Offices directed to monitor markets on a daily basis.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Friday once again warned that strict action will be taken against all those found guilty of charging the sales tax on exempted items.


FBR Chairman Ansar Javed told media that all heads of Large Taxpayer Units and Regional Tax Offices across the country have been directed to monitor markets on a daily basis so that no one is allowed to charge sales tax on all exempted items.

He said the decision had been taken on the special directive of the Finance Minister. Javed said that the FBR will not allow anyone to fleece the poor.

He said that items which are exempted from GST include vegetables, meat, milk, eggs, red chillies, fish, drugs, fruits, poultry, ginger, turmeric, cereals products of the milling industry, ice, poultry seed, butter, yogurt, salt and bread nan.
