Naya Pakistan?: PTI MNA calls for Mumtaz Qadri's release

ISLAMABAD: A Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA called for the release of Malik Mumtaz Qadri, the man who gunned down Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer in 2011.

PTI MNA from Mardan, Mujahid Ali Khan made the demand during a debate on the budget in the National Assembly.

Khan had won the NA-11 seat in the May 11 elections.

Another PTI MNA Arif Alvi clarified that Khan had made this demand in his personal capacity, and this had nothing to do with the party.

Earlier in 2011, PTI chairman Imran Khan had condemned Qadri’s reception as a hero on the premises of the Anti Terrorism Court, Rawalpindi.

“Extremism and radicalism have penetrated our society deeply,” he had said, adding that it is especially harmful for the youth.

Qadri never argued that he had not killed Taseer – shortly after he shot him dead, Qadri said his motive was Taseer’s apparent opposition to the country’s blasphemy law. But if the murder wasn’t shocking enough, it was the stringent defence put up by religious parties, whose activists showered rose petals on Qadri at his court hearing, brought him flowers on Valentine’s Day and set up Facebook pages glorifying him.

To all the haters of PTI!.. READ!! This has nothing to with PTI party’s view. I am sure we all know what the chairman believes in.. Secondly, it’s PTI or PPP or ANP or PMLN the elected members are “representatives” of their communities, which are no other than Pakistanis, Pakistanis who belong to all religious beliefs including Sunnis, Shias, Christians, Talibans, Aalims and Molvis. There are people like Jotoi who ask for corruption rights still work with PPP and PMLN. It doesn’t reflect everyone’s beliefs in those parties. We can easily quote harsh stances taken by individuals in all parties yet the parties are run with a common drive. If you still want to judge a party’s vision and want to have your 2 ounces of chocolate biscuit and make a big deal out of what a PTI MPA said on his personal beliefs, please have fun as no one can put you to the right path. And you would not leave any opportunity to spread hate!

It was expected from the PTI parliamentarians and after few days you may hear same demand from Imran Khan too. Even though PTI was able to attract many young moderates because of Imran’s personality, they are basically a B-team of Jamat-e-Islami. The main gurus of PTI have same rightist mindset with justification to all atrocities committed by the religious extremists. Just like PML-N, they have learned to condemn these actions to fool the common people but always accommodate and facilitate the extremist minds and ideology.
I wish PPP get rid of Zardari and other opportunist leaders and adopt moderate, secular and liberal ideology. It can be an ideal platform for all the progressive forces of Pakistan because the true workers of PPP are still very committed liberal minds.

Since I am a genuin karachiite , allow me to say some , all open minded law abiding citizens they do have an option , to rally around only party which is truely centre left and all inclusive .
In lahore they do not have an option of a liberal party where as in karchi we are not deprived of forward looking political party .There should be no qualms about MQM being heavily urdu speaking , well havent 2013 shown us the election on ethnic lines ,punjabis for Nwaz Sharif , pathans for Khan Saheb , sindh voted to PPP purely ethnicity and baloach for baloach , so it is fine that karachi walas voted for urdu speaking .

    @ Umer

Where is the party action against
him? Heck he is not even been
    condemned by party leadership. Don’t
    try to fool anyone.

Please dont try to fool us! The party dis-associating itself immediately from any such statement is in itself a great thing to do, given Mumtaz unforunately has a lot of support.
And why are you so impatient?

Let u see how they respond further. In my opinion there is no need to go to the next level by dis qualifying him or making a hype out of this issue (as the issue is too sensitive). But they should clearly re-define their firm stance against Mumtaz Qadri.

1 more thing, unfortunately again, in a DEMOCRACY you have the right to say anything you want to (freedom of speech). Just search the news about all kinds of nasty things western parliamentarians sometimes say. You just dont put them behind the bars for that!

Whats the fuss all about? If someone expresses what he feels, whether thats right or wrong doesnt express the ideology of a party. All the folks criticizing PTI and IK, what about that lady of PML-N who slapped a bus hostess? Does that represent the feudal mindset of PML-N or NS? Stop whinning all the time. Either u support IK or NS, groom urself nd broaden your mind. Dont like what he said criticize him not IK. That lady did something criticize her not NS.

In the beginning, I used to support Imran Khan. I thought an Oxford educated person like him would have moderate ideas. Then, I listened to Imran Khan on a TV talk show. He was saying with passion and anger that some are spreading false information that his divorced wife was a Jew converted to Islam but that his divorced wife was never a Jew but was a Christian converted to Islam. It shocked me. If the former religion of your ex-wife matters that much, and also if a person thinks that a Jew converted to Islam is different than a Christian converted to Islam what would be the mentality of this person?

Imran had given in detail comments about Qadri’s position to him. The MNA must have considered discussing it with the party. But as alvi said it was on his personal capacity that he made this demand.
But it should be investigated who spread hatred against Taseer that Qadri was so offended that he killed him.

    @All Insafians

Please check this video on PTI site in which Aamir Mughal, the General Secretary of the PTI Islamabad, is openly calling for the assassination of Salmaan Taseer on December 30, 2010, five days before the said assassination took place.

Don’t believe me? The said speech remains proudly displayed on the PTI’s own official website.

    http://www.insaf.pk/Media/Videos/tabid/62/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/5413/Amir-Mughal-speaking-at-rally-on-defending-blasphemy-law-Dec-31-2010.aspx

So, it is not just one odd MNA. It is the stated policy of the party.

Every person has the right to have his/her opinion on different issues, and a person’s view does not reflect the party views. If this would have come from party senior leasership, then it would have been a different story.
What I am talking about is very common in USA and UK, where members of the same party do differ on different issues. We are not a very mature democracy yet, hence people make a big stink out of this.

All its deeds and actions have been full of hypocrisy like its mentor party, from faking victims of a Taliban attack as drone victims to KPK budget where salaries of the provincial government employees were shows as the education budget. I respect the fact that report different sides to the story and try to impartial but really ET, it’s not cutting it. I get these partial tendencies’ vibes from you. Like example, the title. “Naya Pakistan?” If something is wrong and it’s from the party that I am very enthusiastic about – I shall not blindly follow my party. I support the right thing to be done/do. But It’s really getting to me now. All the hostility and “Naya Pakistan?” is irritating. It’s okay there’s opposition. There always is. And there’s a ruddy bumpy road to achieving the goals but you guys, the partial ones, are like little babies crying all day PTI PTI. Man.
