Negligence: Doctors assaulted after woman dies

A case has been registered against Shahbaz, Aamir and 10 others.

BAHAWALPUR: Police arrested 12 men on Tuesday, for beating doctors and damaging hospital property following the death of a relative during labour.

Police said Nazia Nadeem was brought to Bahawal Victoria Hospital for delivery with critical blood deficiency and died after three days in the hospital. The child has survived.

On learning about Nadeem’s death, Shahbaz Khan and others beat Dr Sadia Tariq, Dr Yasmeen, Dr Mehwish, Dr Rabya and Dr Raheela.

Station House Officer Irfan Akbar of Cantonment police station and Deputy Medical Superintendent Rao Javed Akhtar stopped the assailants.

A case has been registered against Shahbaz, Aamir and 10 others. After consulting the doctors, police released them on bail to allow them to attend Nadeem’s funeral.
