Reducing risk: Basic life saving can reduce death chances

PESHAWAR: Chances of death during accidents can be reduced by 70% if the injured are provided basic life support before they reach hospitals, said Khyber Teaching Hospital CEO Dr Umar Ayub.

He was speaking at the 5th Empress Razia Sultana Basic Life Support training programme – aimed to create awareness among community members and medical practitioners regarding provision of basic aid to patients. The training was concluded at the KTH on Tuesday.

The facilitators of the course were Professor Dr Saima Gillani, Dr Ambar Ashraf, Casualty in-charge Dr Akbar Shah, Dr Asad Maroof and Dr Shereen.

At the session, 14 candidates were given training on BLS measures including Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ayub highlighted the importance of these courses in the current scenario, adding KTH has become a pioneer in starting these courses.

Dr Umar said most of the patients die before reaching the hospital and the aim of the training is to reduce fatalities.
