Abysmal batting led to Pakistan's defeat in all three matches as they failed to post a single total above 170 runs.
Pakistan's failure in the Champions Trophy has prompted calls from former players, media and fans to overhaul the system and ditch Whatmore and under-performing players.
Asked about the need to overhaul the team, Whatmore said he will give a report on the team's performance.
"The question of selection should be directed to the selectors but I will give my review, both verbal and written, perhaps (with) 2015 in mind," Whatmore, 59, told reporters as he arrived back in Pakistan.
Whatmore accompanied Mohammad Irfan, Imran Farhat, Kamran Akmal, Wahab Riaz, Saeed Ajmal, Nasir Jamshed and Ehsan Adil while captain Misbah-ul Haq and vice captain Mohammad Hafeez will return next week.
The former Australian batsman turned coach rejected the suggestion his players lacked in effort.
"The performance didn't meet the expectations which we, as a team, wanted to put. Obviously a lot of people in Pakistan wanted us to do well and that's why it is very disappointing," said Whatmore, who took over as coach in March last year.
"But it wasn't a case of lack of trying, it was a case of we were unable to score enough runs in all three matches."
Pakistan was bowled out for 170 against the West Indies, 167 against South Africa and 165 in a rain-shortened match against arch-rivals India in the Group B matches.
Only captain Misbah-ul Haq managed to hit two half-centuries while top order batsmen Hafeez, Farhat, Shoaib Malik and Kamran flopped badly.
Pakistan's batting was also found wanting on their tour of South Africa earlier this year, where they lost all three Tests and the five-match one-day series 3-2.
Pakistan had hired Australian expert Trent Woodhill as batting consultant for the Trophy but he failed to lift the batsmen.
Pakistan's next assignment is a five one-day and two Twenty20 matches in the West Indies next month.

Bring Imran Khan and Fazal Mahmood back into the team. In any case, they are probably younger than Misbah Ul Haq.
HAHAHAHA....kyun mazak karte ho yaar...joke of the century......hahaha....lol
"Cricket: Whatmore eyes World Cup after Pakistan flop". The title probably means that Whatmore now plans for Pakistan to lose comprehensively in World cup after having achieved that in Champions Trophy.
I have been reading a lot about PK's West Indies trip but it doesn't show-up on West indies Cricket board website or International cricket calendar? Looks like India/Sri Lanka and West Indies are playing Tri-Nation tournament....not sure , where Pakistan fits in picture?

The irony is such that Boom Boom Afridi is not selected, yet he is on the shirts
“But it wasn’t a case of lack of trying, it was a case of we were unable to score enough runs in all three matches.” The coach said it right that our batting failed and we could not score more than 170 runs in any match. The fact is Pakistan does not have batting talent like they had when the two Y and Inzamam were in the side with good openers. The selectors have to choose what is available and the coach cannot go out and play unless they have M. Yousuf as a coach/player. We have to groom new batting talent unless we do that we are doomed.
WHAT-MORE do we want???
The selection committee and team management lack vision. We need to be building for the next World Cup, instead we are two years away with a fragile batting line up full of old failures. The management should have been giving new blood an opportunity and nurturing them into future star batsmen. Instead, the management decides to do some patching for this series by hiring a batting consultant for tried and tested players who have failed in the past. I don't know what a consultant can tell Farhat, Hafeez, Malik and Akmal what they haven't already heard from other coaches. Bring in new faces and let them try. I wouldn't mind them failing, at least they have a future; the old guard has no future and is only hindering the development of our batting future.
PCB is treating the team with Panadol when what is needed is surgery, and soon.
Except Misbah & Nasir Jamshed, all other batsmen have batting average of less than 30 in the present team that returned from England.
Don’t know why after joining PCB reasonably seasoned people lose their sense of shame??
In this state you can't even win 'one-tip' match against the boys from my street mate.
Wrong news. It should have been :
"PAKISTAN EYE WORLD-CUP AFTER WHATMORE FLOP" ....
There is no reason to feel hopeless in regards to the future of the team. Pakistan has the talent to bounce back from this loss. They’ve done it before and can do it again. At the same time, I would like to see some new faces in the team. I think it’s time they start thinking about the 2015 World Cup.

Dave has a good sense of Humor :) .
which world cup? the next one or one after or the one after....?
Same old story flop in current event targeting the next one and so on. The same thing happening in hockey as well. Why not going for event on event basis. They will sent entire new team to WI and if the team flops same old faces will be back. Before changing the team first we have to change Management from top to bottom.
Nobody including the PCB chief has the guts to accept failures...? unless they do soul searching, our team will never improve....
no Test matches in WI PCB is spoiling sport ....
Bring back the old tigers, fight with them if they could not perform turn to Imran farhat and Co again. We will bear you, pakistani nation is used to such kind of stupidity, no matter who and how any one comes.
