The top three positions in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations have been secured by girls.
The SSC results for Peshawar were announced by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) on Saturday.
BISE Peshawar Chairman Prof Dr Shafi Afridi, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Textbook Board Chairman Professor Dr Hemayatullah, Elementary and Secondary Education Additional Secretary Ashraf Rabbani, board officials, staff members and parents of students were present for the announcement at Auditorium Hall.
The first three positions were secured by girls of Peshawar Model Girls High School, Ayesha Urooj clinched the first position by securing 1,000 marks, while Sana Shahab grabbed the second with only two marks less. The third position was taken by Maryam Hamid with 995 points. All three are science students.
In the arts group, Shehzadi Maryam of Iqra Huffaz Secondary School for Girls stood first by obtaining 914 out of 1,050 marks, Javeria Inayat of Peshawar Model Girls High School-II, Dalazak Road came second with 907 marks, while Khushboo Inayat of Government Girls High School Mian Gujjar secured third position by obtaining 906 marks in the annual examination.
The participants eagerly waited for almost half an hour for Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, who was the chief guest of the ceremony, but he did not show up.
More than 61,000 students appeared in the examinations.
During the ceremony, Peshawar Model Girls High School was declared the best institute of the year.
