The newly-formed government had earlier decided against increasing the salaries of government servants — for the first time in nearly three decades.
The budgetary move was denounced with such fervor that the government was forced to reconsider its decision and constitute a committee to review the possibility of increasing civil servants salaries, revealed sources in finance ministry.
The federal government’s decision affects up to 650,000 federal employees and more than two million provincial government employees.
The previous decision had also sparked protests by government employees across the country.

No doubt new established Government is facing to enhance salaries but daily increasing rate of expensiveness in market and society compels employees to cry for uplifting current pays. Government with diplomacy announced only 10% increase in pays which is actually insufficient to the comparison of said dearness in country.
This Government is proving that it differs in its saying before election and doing after election.I would like to say that it is not a practical one.
being servants serving for Government we deserve to expect and claim such demands time to time proportional to increasing rates of prices of things in market.
I am sorry tosay that no website of newspapers never gives full story of any news. They left itincomplete. Their reporters have no experience about Government employees problems, nobody has highlighted employees problems.Onlythey see that 10% increase is given to themand well highlighted but never discussed on their forum. If we see 1999 and 2001, employees have been put back and their benefits were stolen, but no one is ready to listen them. Please make justice with employees and pensioners.
The decision of govt is not good .i hope that govt will change 10% and will increase 15%pay inshaallah
its not enough still.need to increase minimum 25% ,as compare to the high prices markets ,,,,
Mr. Xnain
Be careful once you are passing your remarks about a community..... Out of 10 people 01 may be not well reputed but not all....... Who are you...? Are you doing everything good and correct..... Think before you speak dear..... Such governments always do some drama like this.... I give you rupees 10000/- PM and give me budget of a family consisting on 05 people..... Don't be emotional......Grade 1 to Grade 18 of government employees are in a very critical position...... I am an officer of Grade 17 and and trying to earn Rizq-e-Halal and even unable to manage my family requirements with this salary.... Therefore, I can guess the issues of lower staff.... So be realistic please.....
NS be smart just print the money it will not cost you anything ;-) Leave the inflation for the person who comes after you to solve.
@My Veiws: Well they actually work in the best public representative's interest and here lies the problem.
The PML(N) has never been keen on increasing pay of government employees because coming from a business background the leaders believe that will be able to create their own wealth through bribes and corruption. For the information of Ms, Sharifs and Dars not all government servants work in Customs, income tax, police and utility providing departments. 10% is too little for both serving and retired employees.
Now the increased salaries would either be paid by raising more debt or by cutting development expenditures. Is it medatory that government employees be allowed a raise every time? They have been allowed generous 50% and 20% in 2010,2011 and 2012 respectively. We all know how much have they improved even after such heavy increases.Media and Political parties have left Dar alone on this potentially good decision for the sake of public sympathies. So much for PTI,PPP and JI's ,"we will cooperate with government on matters good for national interest". Once an opportunist, always an opportunist. Dar Sahib! this nation is fond of chocolates only, so give them what they want. Keep raising the debt, keep increasing the deficit keep paying subsidy by printing money. Pakistanis are not willing to sacrifice their today for a better tomorrow.
Even a student of Economics will understand that increase in Salaries/Wages leads to Cost-Push Inflation and thereby increase Prices. #FacePalm
Levy tax and enforce strict collection on real estate sales, agriculture, big banks, retail traders, etc so that relief can be given to poor, otherwise there will be a big back lash.
I think this is the right move.
One has to see the difference in what a person working at a private firm earns compared to what a person earns working for the government (in a similar level of responsibility and grade), without automatically assuming that every government employee must be corrupt and wealthy. The difference is that the middle-management level employee at a good private company will earn much more than what a government servant does.
If the government wants to eliminate corruption, it will have to set a certain standard and bring the salaries and perks of government employees, so that the earnings between private and public servants is similar, thus; reducing the desire for government officials to commit to alternative measures of earning a living.
I think the salaries for the government employees should be raised further.
what about the private employees and salaried class PML-N government is against the middle class salaried persons as indicated by the budget every one knows a private employee works harder than a goverment employe and gets no benefits they are not provided any free medical facility nor concessions in electricity and gas bills plus they have to pay all the taxes we all know PML-N is protecting business class PML-N should reconsider that tax policy other wise pakistanis wiil definitely take their revenge in next elections they are elected because they boasted alot about resolving load shadind crises in 2 years and decrease in sales tax on mobile company charges now what once in power they are also busy in making money
Modeling after Greece. High budget deficits, high interest payments and 10% increase to public employees. Haven’t you hear this song and its result resonating through the EU.
The worst part is, there is EU to bail out Greece, Italy, Spain and Portugal but who is going to come to bailout Pakistan?
If IMF comes, they will want tax reforms, and cuts for sure.
If there ever is case of kicking the can down the street, this is the epidemic of it.
Insanity prevails
It is good that PML-N government heard to the public servants and increased their salaries by 10 per cent. Hope that they will now end the protest and will return to their duties.
Appeal to all Pakistanees.IBTIDA E ISHQ HAY ROTA HAY KYON.
It is proved that Nawaz Sharif and his team is working for industrialist.PML(N) has no even corner for labour and poors.Another fact should now be realized by the labours and poors of Pakistan that only PPP worked for employees and kisans.Even now PPP raised voice for salary hike and PTI,JUI,and all other parties are silent about this matter.
and they did their best not to raise the doctors salaries shame on u pmln
Well Done! PMLN mind it... economic pillers of the country surviving due to hard work of private employees & their salary....Always Khappay!
No political party - even PMLN- knows how to utilize the media to sell its message effectively. Instead of defending their position rationally, they give in.
Thanks a lot. Good decision. After all Governent is responsible to take care for her employees.
Thanks a lot. Good decision. After all, Government is responsible to take care of her employees.
First of many, many U turns to come!
Government Servant's agitated and came on the roads, therefore there was no other option for the Government to raise their salaries by 10%.
If people of Pakistan will also come on the roads, I am sure that the Government will take back its decision of increasing 1% Sales Tax as well as other additional taxes levied by the Federal Government and in due course of time will be levied by the Provincial Governments.
Is there any political party, other than MQM who can take the lead to protest against the increase in the Federal Budget 2013-2014?
Thanks to all who managed and manuered the announcement of 10% increase in salaries. Please take back the cruel decision of new tax slab for already tension addict government servants.
@Pacer: Money is still short, They would have accommodated it from other more important expenditure takay humain tasali hojaye,
Good gesture by PML(n) government. Listening to people's concern. Accept it or not, with the loan mess this country has got itself into, we need serious cuts all over the place. Debt free country or Debt slaves. Choice is yours. Our spending far outweigh our earnings, You can't run a system by having budget deficits every year.
so what?if the present price hike on commodities is compared with increment in salaries then it will come clear that its only joke with govt employee.
This is the beauty of democratic government; after taking pressure from people they have to follow the people.
Another u-turn. Not setting a good precedent. Now any group not happy with govt decision will put pressure to get what they want. I tbought pmln were going to make hard decisions...not popular decisions?
Also where is this extra money coming from? I assume budget from some other area will have to cut? Or will they just add a little bit more to the next imf loan?
thanks to PTI's opposition.
So now business should go on strike and get rid of all harsh and unthought tax increase specially 0.5% Asset tax
In March 2013,salaries of Government employees was increased by 20%. What is going on by the way.No wonder this country is in financial mess
These are just peanuts, we would not accept it.
Didn't they think of this before? Doesn't it show their incompetence?
Attention Everybody. Please advise that as a nation how can we vote against the salary increments of Govt. employees? Until the they don't start behaving in the best public interest.
Finally...... The government has again shown, that they don't have any power to impose their policies, not even on their own employees.
Thanks to government
so what happen to those poor private employees? No body got time for them? They pay taxes, and get no or less than 10% increment from their organization and no one bother to discuss them. No law has been made to protect them.
Three days ago there wasn't enough money to pay the salaries even and now a 10% increase. Mr Finance Minister quit playing games
