The MQM Rabita committee called for an end to the day of mourning announced on Thursday for slain and abducted party workers.
The mutilated body of a joint unit in-charge of Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s Landhi sector was found from Link Road in the Steel Town police limits on Thursday.
Muhammad Asif was missing since April 20.
The party had earlier called for a day of mourning on June 6 after three of its workers were kidnapped and killed by unidentified men.

@ashar: difficult to say what this comment is saying
My detailed response to ashar blocked twice. Thank you ET
@sameer:
My dear. you people don't have any access to those voters since your guys only move in katchi abadis. Please go and check from where you have got the majority of votes in Karachi. For your convenience I advise you to exclude planned mohajir areas from your search and concentrate on Katchi abadis and slums around nallahs.
@ashar@ khi. voters who voted pti awake after seeing reults of punjab ,(20 seats out of 297 seats) atleast i will not going to drain my vote in next election and people who saying mqm wants to be in power how can they give explanation of education ministry splited btween JI and PTI in KPK ??
@Aysha M: The welcome of PTI in Karachi has already done by 55K votes in 245, 32K votes in Azizabad, 60K votes in GI so the false claims are not going to stop them in the future, yes, the work and dedication towards the main issues can redeem the chances for MQM otherwise what I see a clean sweep in MQM areas in Local Bodies by PTI.
Please note that a precedence of having an army jawan inside the polling station has already been established in Karachi. Time to worry for MQM.
@True Karachiite: PTI is a signatory to a document prohibiting women from voting in KPK, Karachi cannot support that, So PTI not at all welcome in Karachi
@ashar: With another commentator who entered with the same name with the same spelling, I am now Aysha M, so there I am not @Aysha: Myopic vision, all major cities have law and order issues, of course not like how it is orchestrated from my home city
@ashar: Most deprived saw massive development when the real representatives for the first time received the administrative mandate along with their usual political mandate. All Karachites need is a strong MQM with administrative authority, everything will fall in place
@True Karachiite:
PTI is just a fad, short shirt and ghare wali shalwar, will fade off,
Karachite will never support PTI,who never condemns Taliban terrorists
MQM MNAs and MPAs are feet on street , After the garments factory incident all MQM representatives were among the masses outside the factory, the same after the Abbas town happenings
Karachi is more than satisfied with its leadership for the past 3 decades
@mrs ahmed: i think ET forgot what your leader threatened media people in a conference few days ago.
Went to office and came back without any hitch. Take that. MQM
@Karachi: people do sympathise it is ET does not like to priny comments favourable to MQM
@Padishah: What else is there to do when we are on strike (I mean mourning) every 2nd day??
Thats why we need Gawadar up and running so we should have options of another seaport. MQM make no sence what they are doing they are god father of Karachi,Hyderabad they never did strike for thousands who killed by US drones but now ...................................
@Billoo Bhaya: The Sodomites are at it 24/7.
@Mohammad Ali Siddiqui: Thanks for your sarcastic comment. The question is: Who is killing there members? What course of action do you recommend for the recovery of their kidnapped workers.
MQM has created an atmosphere akin to what it must have been in Sodom. Anybody called Lut should get out, because party in power with their own Governor wont give permission for any angel to come visiting. Not without prior approval from London.
A typical example of where political power is more important than the welfare of it's citizens. This just about political muscle flexing and nothing else. People are killed and kidnapped in Karachi all the time, but no! This time a party worker has been affected so the city must grind to a halt.
@M.A. Qureshi: according to your suggestion, then the city will be shutdown for the whole year
MQM leadership.
This is putting a lot of inconvenience to the population. If you have a strong case go the Supreme Court, go the national and provincial assemblies where you have good numbers, go to the army, go to the provincial and federal governments. How many times in the last one year other than the cities of karachi, Hyderabad and sukkar have been shut down. Think hard logic is what wins.
@PPP: Of course, we all should mourn every victim of any party, language and religion.
@M.A. Qureshi: dont justify wrong things with wrong things. if something is going bad in any city why we bring that to our city???
Ma Qureshi: They were not supporters of PTI. Remember they were supporters of the slain leader who has won as an independent canditate and then joined PTI.
@PPP: Actually, its 12,000 killed
Bye bye MQM, Welcome PTI
Dear financial losses mourners, what about the killings of dozen people including women and children, looting, burning of properties and in KPK by the supporters of PTI after the killing of their one MNA and to control the worsening situation govt had to impose curfew. Remember hundreds of innocent pakistanis have been killed after torture in few months. Would we not care for the losses of lives side by side financial losses. Are we muslims and pakistanis in reality ???
@M.A. Qureshi: How does this "day of mourning" help? You can mourn by wearing a black band around your arm all day. Why should the whole city suffer because of this? It's not Karachi's fault that MQM goons get murdered due to personal differences.
@Aysha: Here you are. There will be no more strikes for the purpose of the strikes is going to be achieved and MQM is again joining the government. RIP all those who have been killed for the sake of power and greed.
@Karachiets: So you say, that MQM has done all this to become a HEADLINE in ET... I must say then WELL DONE !!
I feel ashamed as a MQM supporter because all these strikes are only affecting the lives of people of Karachi. Daily wages workers and their families can't work and can't eat on the days when my party wants to flex its muscles. Even though I'm with my quaid, I want a clean-up operation by the security forces so that Karachi can be made peaceful like all major cities of the world.
There is no place for gun-point strikes in 2013.
@Karachi: closing down Karachi is not the solution every day 10 to 15 people are dieing nothing has been done closing down karachi makes more difficulty for a daily wages person and millions of rupees are lost when Karachi is closed
This is all this party does call strikes. They should start calling themselves MABM (Mutthaida Anti Business Movement)
@M.A. Qureshi: so why not mourn for those 5000 killed during last 5 years??
@ Mr.Hafiz Ali Shah: you are concerned only for commercial losses but nothing for the torture and killings of youngmen, mourning by the deseased families and relatives. What an apathy ?
MQM is not a political party, it's a mafia. No political party engages itself in activities like MQM does. It has lost the popular mandate of Karachites, now going for some sympathy gaining exercises which will go in vain. Just read about 2.5 million daily wage earners suffers from a strike or day of mourning. The misery of students and other office goers are also there. It means they are actually gaining the hatred from the local people in the wake of a so called day of mourning.
Why no one in comments has sympathies for the MQM victim who was killed, this attitude is really not making Pakistan strong.
Today's strike was backed by the government. Governor met CM and decided the modalities of MQM joining the Government. it was not a strike but a preface to embrace each other once again to loot Sindh the most deprived province of Pakistan as far as the rulers are concerned.
MQM strikes are the few last nails in the coffin of Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur.
People should start buying their own coffins, as one never knows who may die due to soffucation while remaining closed behind the doors due to MQM strikes.
The graph of MQM has fallen down from 35% to 5%.
Time to bypass Karachi... Need a good surgeon.
Objective achieved. ET Headline of the day.
Hmmm: Objective achieved. ET Headline of the day.....:)
why to resume after friday prayers?? They already ruined the whole day. My uni is now closed, morning classes were cancelled.. why to open after namaz??
This has to stop.It is making Karachi which is commercial hub of Pakistan a laughing stock. Now foreign buyers joke " when is the next date of mourning when Karachi will be closed"
Thank you MQM for giving people of Karachi some space to breath.
You are the owners of Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur.
You have a button in your hand through which you can put the switch of electricity "off" and "on" any time you want.
People will go out after 4 pm to resume their duties and businesses as per your instructions.
