KARACHI: Transparency International Pakistan (TIP) said on Wednesday procurement rules are being ignored in the 40 million rupees bulletproof car purchase for the central bank governor.
Reacting on the reply from State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) to its objection TIP said it has been informed by an SBP officer that facility of bulletproof car is available locally for Rs2.8 million which is a better option. TIP agrees that nobody can stop SBP from procurement of bulletproof vehicle for its governor, if proper approval is obtained and is a planned budgeted expenditure under annual plan.
“But TIP is unable to digest that only present governor is in danger and last many governors did not feel the need of bulletproof car,” TIP advisor Adil Gilani said in a letter to the SBP Governor Yaseen Anwar.
