GILGIT:

Flash floods have begun to wreak havoc on life and property in Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B).

On Tuesday, Kargah Nullah was flooded, damaging a RCC bridge and rendering it unusable. The water also swept away some electricity polls, disconnecting power supply to Baseen.

Meanwhile, a young man drowned in Naltar Hydel Power Unit while attempting to swim across the reservoir. In a similar incident, two students of Cadet College, Skardu drowned in Karchura Lake on Sunday.

In Astore valley’s Fina village, flash floods claimed the lives of several cattle grazing near a ravine. According to locals, the water level in Gilgit River also reached an alarming high level with low-lying areas running the risk of being inundated after even slight precipitation.
