The judicial magistrate gave police officials a four-day remand of the police officers who had failed to arrest Pakistan Peoples Party MNA Nawab Wassan after his escape from Khairpur anti-terrorism court following the rejection of his bail application in a murder case on Saturday.
Three police personnel including A-section police station SHO Zulfiqar Ali Qureshi, CIA in-charge Shabeer Jamali and investigation officer Muhammad Ameen Pathan, were arrested on Sunday. The police had registered an FIR against them under sections 222 and 224 of the Pakistan Penal Code. They were produced before the court on Monday.
Pakistan Muslim League-Functional worker Abdul Wahab Moorejo was killed while 16 others, including former taluka nazim, Tahir Imtiaz Phulpoto, were injured in the firing allegedly by Wassan on May 11. According to sources, the mother of the deceased, Morejo, passed away on Monday morning reportedly due to grief over the loss of her son. In the wake of the situation, the PML-F has decided to call off its protests in the city until the deceased mother’s soyem. Meanwhile, the police have yet to arrest the absconder, Wassan.
