KARACHI: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) stunned defending champions Karachi Youth Team 2-1 in their opening match of the National U16 Championship in Abbottabad yesterday.

Faisal Israr scored the opener of their Group B match in the 33rd minute as K-P led 1-0 at the interval. Karachi’s Umair Ali equalised in the 59th minute before K-P’s Muhammad Ali scored the winner in the 89th.

Meanwhile, Fata drew their match against Lahore Youth Team 1-1 in their Group C fixture. Fata’s Bilal Ahmed scored the opening goal, which was equalised by Lahore’s Rashid Raza. Fata lead in Group C with six points. They had earlier defeated Balochistan in their opening match on Saturday.

The championship is featuring 11 teams divided into four groups. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the quarter-finals that will start from Friday.
