Being able to balance work and life well is possible for the Parineeta actor because she has been lucky enough to find a very supportive husband. “He is very supportive. In fact, I did The Dirty Picture after we got together,” she adds.
When asked if marriage may affect the kind of roles she chooses to undertake in future, Balan says, “I don’t think marriage really has a bearing on that. Both of us value what the other one does. I may choose a role which I feel very strongly about, and he may decide to produce a film which he feels very strongly about. You just have to respect each other’s professions,” she adds.
However, does that mean she will be willing to pull off another bold character like Silk in The Dirty Picture? “The definition of boldness may not only be limited to what was portrayed in The Dirty Picture. Even Ghanchakkar is a bold role. I believe that there is an extraordinary in the ordinary and I feel that is what films are exploring these days vis-a-vis different characters.” She adds, “Having said that, I might just do another Dirty Picture. If I feel strongly about it, I will go and do it.”
Post-marriage, Balan has been caught up with the shooting and promotion of her upcoming films Ghanchakkar opposite Emraan Hashmi and Shaadi ke Side Effects with actor-director Farhan Akhtar. Although she is “enjoying straddling the two worlds [movies and marriage],” she admits that work, at times, does not allow her to spend enough time with her husband.
“Somehow, in the six months that we have been married, both Siddharth and I have been travelling a lot. Despite the fact that we live in the same house, we hardly spend sufficient time together,” she confesses.
The award-winning actor also admits that a certain amount of responsibility does come after marriage. She said, “I guess both of us are hard-working professionals. Around a release or when I am in the middle of shooting, he understands what my pressures are and I understand what his pressures are.” She adds, “But yes, there is a certain responsibility that one faces after marriage. I am also running a house now and I can no longer leave it to my mother to decide what to cook at home.”
While many popular actors including Kajol Devgn and Madhuri Dixit took a backseat after marriage, Balan is determined that come what may, she won’t ever quit acting. “I would love to act till I am 83. I think there are enough opportunities to do so,” says the 35-year-old actor.
