“It was no slip of tongue. I had said it. I'm holding this press conference to take it back,” he said during a press conference in Multan, adding that he has respect for everyone.
“Zulfikar A Bhutto had me beaten. I was thrown in jail but I never stopped treating him with respect,” he explained.
“I can’t stand to see the youth who supported PTI disappointed and therefore, I'm taking my statement back,” he added.
In an earlier statement, the PTI leader had said that “differences apart, Nawaz was my leader and will remain my leader. We will form an opposition because it's crucial to strengthening the democratic process.”
PTI had earlier nominated Hashmi as its candidate for the slot of Prime Minister.

@Zia Syed: "He made an statement, it got misunderstood"
No. The statement was not misunderstood. Hashmi himself says that "“It was no slip of tongue. I had said it." He is "taking back" what he said earlier because "I can’t stand to see the youth who supported PTI disappointed"
Is Javed Hashmi a leader or a follower?
@ Rex Minor: He made an statement, it got misunderstood, he retract his statement to avoid chaos. And this is how it works,
Unless, such misunderstanding/mistake are not repeated, allow PTI to focus on real issues.
@ Salman Saleem: Please read before commenting. There are PTI members who actually appreciated his respect toward Nawaz Shareef.
What's wrong if Javed Hashmi terms Nawaz Sharif his leader. They have political association of more than 30 years. NS is the PM and leader of the house in NA. So he is leader of PTI representatives also. PTI supporters should grow up!
@PMLN's Lion: What a loser approach. Anyone not on your side is now not acceptable to you. I guess then Shahbaz Sharif should be sidelined too for making three different promises with three different periods to restore the energy in Punjab? Just Thinking!
Well done,PTI
@Zia Syed:
Human are prone to mistake so are their leaders, should also take the consequene. They must resign since only a fool trusts a leader who has no credibility in his statements!
Rex Minor..
what Mr. Hashmi was saying since the majority of Pakistanies elected Mr. Nawas in the past and now as the prime Minister and as their Leader and as a Pakistani himself he accepted him as his leader as well but he will not compromise on his responsiabilty as part of the opposition.Thank you Mr. hashmi for saying this.
It is sad to see the PTI supporters being so intolerant as to what other people have to say. This educated youth will grow up to become journalists, politicians, bureaucrats, artists and God-fobid, historians of the country. I am wary of the mess, distortions of fact and the hostile ambiance that they will conjure when they do. They will excoriate the mandate awarded to PML-N by their fellow brethren. They will hail PTI and its leaders, which include waderas and lotas of all sorts, as being impeccable. They will troll those who beg to differ. And what horrifies me is that they will write it down in the pages of history because they have the power to write and express. They will teach this to children in schools exactly like they are being taught right now by the Pak fouj- Mullah approved Pakistan Studies book. I hope that one day the PTI supporters and its autocratic Imran Khan realize that the vote of a person residing in Bedian carries as much weight as the vote of the person who owns a villa in DHA. Hashmi has done what a respectful politician in his situation would have done: to accept the mandate of the people of Pakistan.
Human are prone to mistake so are the leaders. Thank you Hashmi for admitting it publicly. At the same time, I like his attitude of respect towards others. He retracted "Nawaz Shareef as a leader" statement but not the respect factor. Quite mature and elegant.
It is really sad to see one bahadur admi Javed Hashmi to be playing in the hands of PTI party extreme where he was enjoying so much decent status in PML N.
@FACT: Yes you are right, bcz whenever a person joins pti his speaking tone changes immediately... which is a real shame for them.
"Zulfikar A Bhutto had me beaten."
I have a feeling we will get a 'on second thought: it was pres. musharraf' kind of a correction from the author :p
He shouldn't have took his words back because of reaction from youth. There's no shame in saying what you feel like saying. But, I believe that Hashmi has lost his freedom of thought after joining PTI.
Egoistic attitude of imran khan must have forced hashmi to take back his statement.
A political party should always listen to its supporters, PTI is not a family limited, it represents democratically elected leadership! Its too new for PMLN supporters to understand!
Actually he must be repenting leaving PML-N
The correct thing was for him was to tender his resignation.
Too bad, the guy should not have opposed the formal nomination of the Prime Minister from the majority party. Now he has repeated the mistake by renouning the earlier satement. He should stop loud thinking!!
Rex Minor.
wht ever said by hashmi sb , was no more than a word of respect....but he should not said that bcoz of party policy.......he is great man as he admitted his mistake.....a brave man...Ik is his leader
@PMLN's Lion:
Nawaz Sharif sidelines every one except his close and extended relatives .. How can you trust a businessman who has installed all his relatives on senior ministerial posts, who in his maiden speech in NA says No Nepotism from now on and then appoints his brother as CM and his in laws on as senior minister?
It's interesting to see how much people are blinded by their hatred in this country. Every little issue of PTI is made in to a huge issue. It's politics, we have much bigger issues in this country than a mere misunderstanding. Lets let the politicians get back to work and get our country out of the whole dug by the previous leaders. Give them a little time before criticizing the heck out of them. I didn't see shahbaz shareef come out and apologize for his josh-e-khitabat, If Mr. Hashmi wants to clairify his aliegance is still to PTI and IK than we don't need to make it a big issue, it was already established. My suggestion to my fellow PTI supporters would be to dial it down a notch, you put faith in PTI and IK than give this party a chance. They are obviously going to get attacked by the media and opposition.
Useless self serving politicians of PML-N/PTI
Shame on you Mr. Hashmi
Interestingly enough, he was not forced into retracting his statement by the party leadership but by the voters. Democracy at work.
Let's move to the real stuff: when will corruption in KPK end and how many days before electricity will be available to our Pakhtun brethern, when will violence stop?
Nobody really cares about how many retractions Javed Hashmi has or will make or the number of juvenile tantrums that Ms. Fauzia Kasuri has thrown, enough of that nonsense, please!
I was surprised that why a very mature politician, Mr. Javed Hashmi, joined PTI and accepted Leadership of a very immature person and a seasonal politician, Imran Khan. Hashmi will always remain in trouble in PTI.
In my humble view, once elected, a PM or President becomes the leader of every citizen, regardless of whether they voted for him or against him/her campaigned for him/her or against him.
So Nawaz Sharif (or anyone else who had been or would be elected in the future) who would be elected in the future will become the leader of the entire nation. If Imran Khan is elected the next him, Nawaz Sharif should say he is his leader. That is democracy.
Sorry Mr. Hashmi, they will not get it. I know you were trying to take the parliamentary culture of our country to the next level. But it is okay. Our democracy is going through evolution and we will get there.
What is deplorable is that the leaders and supporters of PML-N did not get him and some of them even mocked him.
Well, dudes, learning curve!
He should stand up in parliament and say the same to take back what he said.
Besides I see nothing wrong as Nawaz is the leader of the house so technically is his and the rests leader!
What Respect should i give to this Man? Cant Stand on his own words just because of party pressure?? Com On Man u even faced the dictator but cant face Imran khan n Trolls??
@Azmat Ali: Your emotions are respected but you need to understand that the entire PTI politics is based on disrespecting others. Therefore, a positive note from any person against any other party would warrant you the same filth, which all other parties get from PTI. You want to be respected in PTI, continue disrespecting others.
Load shedding, terrorism, unemployment, high food and fuel prices are biggest issues to discuess not what Javid hashmi has said. Now i understand why pakistan is in reverse gear,Issue which should not be a issue!!!!
Main nahi manta, Main nahi manta, Aysay Hashmi ko main nahi janta :(
How many leaders have you seen in Pak who apologize for their mistakes?
At least he is true... Has the guts to hold a press conference and admit.....
what pti wallahs need to understand is just because a person has moved on doesn;t mean he will completely forget his past associations. theres nothing wrong in what he said. and he didn't really take it back, just did it because of 'disappointed youth' who really need to grow up. good on him that he didn't mention a silly justification such as slip of the tongue. in any case, his stature is far superior than IKs. Doesn't need to explain anything to that man child of a leader.
Pti is turning out to be even worse than.MQM..shame on imran for pressurising hashmi so much..on one side, there z nawaz sharif who personally went to see imran at SKMCH leaving his personal differences aside..n on other side thr z arrogant imran who cant tolerate even a statement in favour of nawaz...grow up imran..u wont make uraelf a leader like this...u r making a mockery of ur party...
High time for PTI Youthias to grow up and give their leadership a break! though I am strongly against PTI and its policies, I respect people like Javed Hashmi in their ranks. What Mr. Hashmi said was coming from his heart and PTI should have accepted it instead of making a hill out of a mole!
He is a respectable man and PTI made fun of him, If he said NS was & is my leader then what's wrong with this.
It is the fact most of PTI leadership are from other parties so if someone praise a good person then what's with this.
Javed Hashmi should retire if he wants to salvage the little respect he's left with, otherwise it'll be a little too late. #PML-N
Well done PTI Youth. Disgracing your own was one of the few areas you weren't excelling in. Victory is yours.
None of the top leaders of Naya Pakistan has any control over his actions and they want everybody to believe them? Here is a new somersault from a top PTI leader. Yet these men were all much better and more qualified than a lifetime woman leader of PTI!
Honesty seems to be a dying quality in PTI. Flip-flopping all around. The Taliban, drones, corruption, Fauzia Kasuri, rigging allegations, now Hashmi's statement. They don't allow their leaders to speak their minds. Let us see what happens to the 90-day, or was it 19-day, deadline.
Ek bahadur admi, Hashmi, Hashmi????
Tody i am very sad to see JH, he was baggi , he was used to say every thing before NS. NS should ask him to come back JH was having much more respect in PML_N
The statements given by him in the press conference made me laugh too much. How easily he retreats his statement about Nawaz Shareef. He told the truth in National Assembly and now by the strong offense from party workers he step back. This proves that PTI is full of confuse mind people.
don't worry Mr. Javed Hashmi, present time is lot more different than the 99, media is liberated, people are more educated and informative (hail to Musharraf for Media) and people can now better judge things than the past.
In next six to one year period, if Nawaz Government failed to deliver, their downfall will start automatically. They will not be able to hide their corruption or dirty tactics under the table now.
i dont know how can we call him mature politician , politically immature statements
Retreated just for youth, but not in principle.... Interesting!
When you would think you will be retiring from the practicle politics?
This will give chance to the youth of PTI to come up.
It's time for you to take rest at home.
Despite being a PTI supporter, It was ironic that after Hashmis speech and Fauzia Kasuris departure, PTI 'trolls' started attacking there own party with emotional rants against 'status quo' while not having a clue as to how parliamentary democracy functions. . . To me it was clear that as Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif is leader of the house, and since Hashmi is a parliamentarian...Nawaz is his leader in parliament. But explain that too emotional PTI peeps, or tell them that if Fauzia Kasuri was Fauzia Kohati she would be in parliament...you will get trolled by trolls demanding 'insaf' against Statu quo.
What has our politics come to? A nice gesture has to be taken back by pressure of party trolls and well, media trolls. Looks like signs of things to come, where decency will be labelled as muk muka, respect as treason.
Javed Hashmi, thank God you aren't in PMLN now. I now understand Mian Sahab did a good thing by sidelining you.
Kick him out!!! So he can go to his precious leader!!
Hashmi is a mature leader and much respected in PTI and in general as well. An issue has been made out of no issue.
As long as the political discourse in Pakistan becomes more mature, such mistakes are acceptable.
Thank you Hashmi, needs load of guts for a leader of this caliber to take his words back on pressure from party workers... #respect
Be honest, If thats what you think, dont take it back for the sake of the youth.
