RAWALPINDI: Rescue teams of the Child Protection and Welfare Bureau (CPWB) along with police inspected several city areas including Saddar, Commercial Market, Pirwadhai and Scheme Three and conducted eight rescue operations.

District Officer CPWB informed that 28 children, who were already in the custody of CPWB, were also handed over to their parents. He told that children taken into custody from different areas were later presented in the Child Protection Court for legal custody. The family tracing unit of the bureau makes efforts to find the parents of such children, and on provision of an affidavit declaring that the children would not be compelled to indulge in begging, are handed over to them.

He said the citizens should give information about such children on the child protection help line ‘1121’. As many as 2,300 children rescued from the city roads have been handed over to their parents on provision of these affidavits.
