Habeas corpus: 71 year old ‘detained by his son’

According to petitioner, Rehman’s sons were opposed to her marriage and had given her death threats.

LAHORE: A petition had been lodged by Samina Bibi a 34 year old woman seeking the recovery of her 71 year old husband Hafiz-ur-Rehman who had been kidnapped and was illegally detained by his son and three unidentified people. The Additional District and Sessions Judge Javed-ul-Hassan Chishti adjourned the habeas corpus petition on Thursday and the hearing has been adjourned till June 10, 2013. According to Samina Bibi, Rehman’s sons were opposed to her marriage and had given her death threats which she had ignored. She said, eight days after their marriage on April 28, when the couple were at a shop in Gulshan -i- Ravi’s Moon Market her step son Ijaz-ur-Rehman and three unidentified people forcibly took her husband away. Samina Bibi told the media how the station house officer at the Gulshan-i- Ravi police station hadn’t entertained her complaint.  The court summoned the SHO who said, he had visited Hafiz-ur-Rehman’s son Ijaz-ur-Rehman who said his father was mentally unstable and had been admitted to a local hospital.
