Farid Khan’s killing: Lawmakers offer condolences to family

K-P Assembly Speaker says Farid’s killers would soon be brought to justice.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser and two senior ministers visited slain MPA Farid Khan’s family to offer their condolences on Friday.

Strict security measures were taken by the district administration on this occasion and Qaiser was accompanied by Jamaat-e-Islami’s Sirajul Haq and Qaumi Watan Party’s Sikandar Sherpao.

Qaiser said Farid’s killers would soon be brought to justice. “They will be taken to task regardless of any affiliation they may have with any political party,” he maintained. The K-P assembly speaker further claimed the newly-elected provincial government would rid the district of criminal elements that were trying to sabotage peace in the region.



Haq also stated the provincial government would take steps to restore peace in the district, adding this was the new government’s first priority. Sherpao lent his support by adding a resolution to award the late MPA a peace award would be presented in the K-P Assembly.

Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has announced Rs5 million as financial compensation for Farid’s family, while the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will reportedly bear his children’s educational expenses along with the medical bills of his brother, Shah Nawaz, who is being treated at the Lady Reading Hospital.

PTI lawmaker Farid Khan was shot dead in a targeted attack on June 3, which also left Shah Nawaz wounded.

Two killed, six injured in crossfire

Meanwhile, two people were killed and six others were injured in a firefight that erupted following an argument in Muhammad Khawaja.

A Saddar police official said the incident occurred between two rival groups after Friday prayers.



Sabir Nawaz and Muhammad Hussain were killed on the spot during the exchange, while the six injured were rushed to district headquarters hospital.
