The verdict of the murder case, which has been going on a daily basis at the anti-terrorism courts, was announced today.
ATC judge, Ghulam Mustafa Memon, issued the judgement.
The other two suspects, Sajjad Talpur and Ghulam Murtaza Lashari, were awarded life sentences.
Police, as soon as the verdict was announced, had taken the four offenders to jail. However, the court has now called them back as they had not signed official documents.
Jatoi’s lawyer said he is not satisfied with the verdict and will review appeal against it. The ATC has given them seven days time to file review request.
On December 25, last year, Shahzeb Khan, 20, was gunned down by Shahrukh Jatoi, who was accompanied by his friends, Siraj and Sajjad Talpur. The young men had a fight after the Talpur’s servant, Ghulam Murtaza Lashari, teased Shahzeb’s sister.

i feel that though what these young men did is extremely despicable and they deserved to be punished but death penalty at such a young age doesn't give them a chance to change for the better.they should be dealt with severely but i am of the opinion that until and unless a person is a serial killer or a serial rapist he/she should not be hanged. He should pay for his sins but should be given an opportunity to mend himself too. this does not in anyway mean that i feel sympathy towards these men but it simply means killing them will not in anyway bring shahzeb back. An eye for an eye is the opinion of many but as someone once said if that would be the case everyone on the society would be blind.
I doubt it he will get the sentence he knows by the looks of him he will be free and with so many links he has what is the guarantee he doesn't go home in the night by the help of police? By the relaxed look of the chap he knows no one can do nothing to him!
His grin reminds me of Zardari. The horror of thinking that he's already got the pre-requisite to be a politician (jail time). Let's make sure this death sentence is implemented, for the sake of Pakistan.
Why's he laughing, may be he knows he'll be out in a year ?
Am I the only one here who can't understand what that victory sign is suppose to mean :/ Does the kid know he's gonna die?
Do you see any shame in his eyes??? He is Smiling... Disgusting!!!
the case will prolong and culprits will be free after 2 or 3 years.
The image of the smiling convicts are contrary to the news....and it only shows that the verdict has no affect on Shahrukh and accomplices. Here's what I think is going to happen; this verdict has been given out to satisfy the country. the proceedings after the appeal (where all the culprits will get a reduced sentence or may even get bail) will not be made public and this is the last we hear of this case....justice prevails!
I don’t know but it isn’t reasonable from starting we guys weren’t asking for justice since the beginning we were and unfortunately are an enthusiast just to see feudalists hanged .This isn’t justice this feudality we all know does exists in the soul of each Pakistani we can’t murder it we can just enlighten it.
Justice has been done. Now let it carried out. Throw all the waderas out of Karachi. Salams
The fellow has just been sentenced to death, but he is flashing a victory sign and grinning broadly - clearly he does not expect the sentence will ever be carried out.
If this picture is a current picture of the murderer and he is shamelessly smiling, with V sign, even after death sentence, he must be hanged as soon as possible. He is an open threat to any society and looks like to me a psychopath.
This penalty should be implemented as soon as possible to build the faith in justice system. Under no circumstances it should be allowed to prolong, as it is a very open murder case, and the person involved has no remorse for his action or for the loss of another young boy, his lawyer or family may say he is innocent, but his pictures show no nervousness as an innocent guy get, on contrary, he is showing victory sign, which makes it obvious that he think he has done a heroic job, and he is also sure that the judiciary of Pakistan is his father's slave, and the justice system cannot do any harm to him and for this reason this case should be expedited and death penalty be implemented.
For those of you saying that Sharukh Jatoi should be given life imprisonment instead, are you guys mad? The guy has been found guilty for murder. He murdered a 20-year old young man who actually had a career to make, to raise a family, and to live a happy life. He was murdered protecting his sister.
What would putting him in jail for life do? It would only give him the opportunity to escape. And we all know how secure our jails are. Slip some extra money and these gangsters are back on the street.
Our police and jail system are not the place for these criminals. Capital punishment should prevail for cold blood. "An eye for an eye." And keep in mind that Shahzeb could've been your own brother, son, or nephew.
This was just for closing the case. They will escape. Must be hanged in near future.
and what abt the injustice done with brutal killings of two brothers in sialkot???? remember in that incident we the whole nation was witness!!!
I believe the ATC judge made the right call but I really doubt it'll stick!
Well done courts. A death penalty in a country where there has been no execution since 2008.
Justice done but will it be implemented?
But why does Shahrukh seem so happy outside the court after the final verdict? Something is fishy!
Soon we'll see him in politics and winning the election as well...
@Eeman: New name new identity so this was an Aussie as well. Justice is the only way for a better Pakistan. No one is above the law and the conviction should be implemented without any delay!
This man is totally normal.we want change.
Gud news but I doubt abt its implementation.
Why is he showing victory in the picture? Is there somehitng we dont know?
The arrogance and egoistic attitude of these criminals after being awarded a death sentence shows how great they think themselves to be. Imagine flashing a victory sign, smiling and celebratory gestures at hearing that they are proved as murderers and are sentenced to death! What kind of heartless attitude they must have displayed the night they shot poor Shahzeb and what arrogance they must have showed! There was no remorse or sense of shame on being proved murders! This shows the kind of upbringing and family they have and what they have learnt from the behaviour of their elders. Shame of such sons of feudal lords!
despite being awarded death sentences, these arrogant sons of feudal lords felt no shame or remorse, instead they were flashing signs of victory and were smiling as if they were set free. Imagine what arrogant attitude they would have displayed soon after shooting down poor Shahzeb! Their arrogance at such young ages shows what kind of family and brought up they have and how they must have behaved when they were free and not charged as criminals. Their attitude is a reflection of the society they come from and what they have witnessed their elders behaving as.
I really hope that justice will be served. And people who are thinking that Capital Punishment is too extreme for the modren society, just think for a sec can u call people like Shahrukh and Siraj Modren or civilized...I think this is the only way to show all these spoiled rats that even for them there is a law, they are not untouchable & invincible.
Justice has been done. Now, the culprits must not be allowed to prolong the matter under the umbrella of appeals in high and supreme courts. However, with the assumption that Mr Zardari may chose to suspend the death sentence, the supreme court should preferably turn down the appeal after Zardari goes home.
.bank of justice is bank corrupt in Pakistan . Giving out death sentences and carrying them out are two different things.
but in the footage continuously being shown on different channels, why were the proven killers smiling so much?
Why is shahrukh making the victory sign and smiling? hardly looks like someone who's been handed death sentence.
Probably a presidential pardon is close after they appeal against the decision
Well done judiciary. Keep it up for all citizens of Pakistan regardless of their status, religion, caste, creed, sex and colors. It is a good decision by the judiciary the culprit must be punished immediately. It means the judiciary is not under influence. The appeal of the culprits behind this scenario must be rejeted by the President of Pakistan.
With all the respect and sympathy for Shahzeb's family and looking at the history and trend of our wadara/zamidara - this guys is our political leader in making. This is a decision from just a lower court. The game will start now at higher courts. This guy will be awarded with a much lenient punishment and will be left to enjoy life a political leader. Time will tell. Look at the smile and laughs of this guy and people around him as he was awarded death penalty as a freedom fighter. Disgusting and Shame.
Despite its magnitude this was the smaller step. The bigger step will be the actual implementation of the order and only then justice will be served. The bigger battle is yet to be fought. That said, kudos to the judiciary for the sentences handed out to the culprits. The influential Jatois will also try to get the President to pardon the death sentence. Lets see what the future holds.
showing the victory sign after being sentenced to death is an insult to the judiciary. he thinks he can still get away with it.
I appreciate the judgement. This is not historic judgement indeed. Appellate process will prolong this capital murder case. I believe it will take not less than 10 years and all of us will have forget this case.
On the other hand federal government will not reinstate its moratorium on all capital execution.
Now it should be ensure that he be hanged. Or else there will be another rich spoilt brat doing the same thing to someone else.
Relax guys ... nothing will happen ... this is Pakistan !!!
@Zeeshan: strange. if capital punishment is too extreme, what about taking lives in the modern world. isn't this also too extreme.
punishment for a murderer should remain death, no matter in what century we are living in. killing some one in modern world doesnot anyhow mitigate the severity of the crime commited.
with age and technology, should come maturity as well.but if one likes living like animals, he should be dealt like one.
Why isn't he sad or remorseful? :S He has no regrets on what he's done to a family!
@Yuri Kondratyuk Pakistan has seen too many people being killed. The drones, terrorists, target killings and tortured gunny bag killings!!!!!. Today, the people of Pakistan are sensitised to the killings. We need to change the society NOT to accept KILLINGS in whatever form it may be.......
The shameless smiling of the convicts is an indication of how lightly they take this case. Even if one is suppose to believe that they are innocent, you would think given that another boy (Shahzeb) has died, the defendents would be somber and serious. But in Pakistan, killing another human is just a joke! Absolutely disgusting and shameful display of arrogance!
"The other two suspects,"
They are no longer suspects, rather convicts!
I don't believe that this sentence will be carried out. There is going to be an appeal in the SHC.Then the Supreme court and then if Zardari is still president they will be pardoned. There are loop holes in the system which need to be dealt with. Did you see the video of the two convicts? They were smiling and waving as if they were celebrities. There was no sign of worry there. They know that they will get away with it.
The picture says "Shahrukh Jatoi appears outside the court after he was sentenced to death" he doesn't look to stressed out by the verdit to me. I think the verdit was given just to shush up the case, he will be given a back door exit soon. I will belive that actual justice was given until i read the news that he was actually hanged.
Why is he making sign of victory in the picture when he has just been handed over the death penalty? It looks like he has no fear or concern or even realize what he has done and what sentence he has been given. It is utter shameless behavior and arrogance and it shows the tribal mindset of the powerful.
Faith restored in the judiciary...normally I am against capital punishment...and don't leap with joy at someone's imminent death. BUT in this case I will make an exception. Justice has been served. The son of a powerful feudal family will pay for his crimes...no longer can they kill us ordinary folks on the roads and get away with it.
I am sure blood money will be paid, and nothing will happen......that how justice is served in land of pure.
It's Pakistan' where you have to bribe police to register an FIR of a Murder, so chill out people no one is going to get a real DEATH SENTENCE ' it is just a lolly pop for we suckers'
ALLAH the most Merciful.
In comparison to a manslaughter in the heat of the moment, a premeditated human murder in the name of the whole society is even more primitive, perverse and criminal!
Death penalty should be totally abolished because to kill each other is not the purpose of life.
Thats a good news but the fact is that they will file a review application which will again prolong for final judgement. We all have to wait for the time to see them hanged till death ASAP!!!!
@Pakistani: "i was thinking that poor Shahzeb will never get justice...." . Had Shahzeb been born in a poor poor family (majority consists of them), would the Civil Society have adopted the victim's cause as their own?
@Eeman...what about the life of Shahzeb Khan who was brutally murdered by this bloke. Criminals should not have any rights
Just look confidence/smile on Shahrukh Jatoi's face, looks like he is sure he will be acquitted finally after further trials.
I don't know if anyone else wondered about this too, but why on earth is Mr Jatoi so exuberant and waving the victory sign when coming out of the courthouse?! Perhaps not hear the verdict properly...someone must explain it to him!
I feel sorry for this kid. He has just been sentenced to death and he is not only laughing but also showing the 'Victory" sign Wait till it sinks in !!!! Also i think that the Diyat ordinance will now come into play and he will be forgiven by the victim's Family
What an indecent thing it is to show sign of victory after being snetenced for murdering someone's son. EVEN if shahrukh was innocent as he claims, he could show some respect to the deceased? May be i am asking too much considering the kind of family this man belongs to and the kind of tactics they tried during the trial.
The culprits should be hanged by tomorrow. If their families want to keep them live they must be charged per day and the money be paid to victim's family. More you pay more time you can live. This can be the real revenge.
@Dilip:
Why should the society bear the burden of feeding and protecting a destructive parasite? It's like showing sympathy towards tape worms!!
Chief Justice and Public are made happy. Now carrot and stick game will begin but final victory belongs to carrot.
@Soomro: When this or some other jatoi and talpur murders your sister, daughter or father, then you forgive them. It would be nice and appreciated by all jatois and talpurs.
Hastay Hastay he will be HUNG
Folks, This is just the anti terrorist courts judgement, they have given death sentences in many previous cases and all of them were overturned by High courts.
Waiting to say Good riddance to both culprits.
,,,and he is smiling with victory sign......
ET is this today's picture? This kind of audacity should not go unpunished, not a semblance of remorse. There should be a book written Shahrukh Jatoi and other carnivorous animals
@Common Citizen: Exactly - at last a good decision is made by the judiciary and hope the lawyers will not play and use delay tactics and game of petitions / submission of further clauses etc. Pakistanis are so tired with the very poor law and order situations and pray for justice. if people remember sometimes back the mobile/purse snatchers were started punished by the public by burning them on spot or by killing, but this is not public's work and it should not be encouraged. This is also fact that the result was much better.
the courts now appear to be doing what they always should do; speedy delivery of justice and if things move forward like this then Pakistan will surely prorgess and it will become a civlised place where laws are respected and everyone high and low is equal. The challenge is now to implement this decision.
and eventually he will be our future president.... Let's Wait and watch!
I did not want to comment on the conviction and death sentence of Shahrukh Jatoi, but the guy is laughing and posing a victory sign V. in the above picture this has forced me to say ''that he may know what we dont'' or I am just being paranoid about influence of the political elite on the Judaical system. Lets see how the appeal goes and would it be upheld in the supreme court or not. As this case sure to reach C.J.P
OLD ENGLISH PROVERB: " ITS NOT OVER TILL ITS OVER" Check back same story next week same channel
Thank you ATC court n now public wait actual implementation of these verdicts. We hope courts of appeals would not take a u-turn.
The boy has no shame he is flaunting a victory sign. Does he think he did a good thing. Atleast now the government should think of taking away weapons from the children or landlords.
What a sport he is.....smiling all way on his death sentence.....!!!
Excellent judgement - Plz keep watching some unprofessional advocates that they MUST not play with this decision by digging out delay tectics/petition games and at the end request President to pardon him .... it would be very bad impact on judiciary then.**
There will be an appeal may be in High Court, if verdict upheld then in Supreme Court and then so on. Judicial system stinks
A decision that will not be implemented EVER so don't be so excited guys!
Great day in Pakistan history. Let's hope that the decree will be carried out sooner and it will set a pretext for all feudals.
Is it normal in Pakistan for convicted murderers to appear in the middle of public outside the court and jail ?
In many cases in Pakistan, ATC awards death sentence leaving option to appeal against its verdict in High court and Supreme court. Everybody will see that in either upper courts, these accused will be freed.
The Justice must PREVAIL. All people, rich or poor, are equal in the eyes of LAW....
why it happen in this case? how many Sharukh are going murdered on daily basis in only karachi city, no body carrying. All knows well that who are criminals and robbers but all are silent and only Jatoi and talpur are seen as criminal.. i hope the sad family of Shahzeb khan will mercy upon these young guys and their family, they will forgive them.this decision is not from Court its efforts of Media , those are silent for their own correspond Wali Khan babar and other innocent....
ET when a court convicts someone of a crime, the act ceases to be "alleged". It's similar to the difference between a "'mulzim' and 'mujrim'.
JUSTICE HAVE BEEN SERVED. Now CJP please do not ruin the judgment - this is full and finall and the Sharrukh should be hanged
To ET we must not forget ET and social media for continues coverage for this case.
Damn!
im sure they will never been given the death sentences so why are people in this forum so happy. its not the first time someone is punished in theory and then get a way and live life in luxury either in jail or outside.
I honestly feel 'sad' reading these congratulatory comments ! Sad for the nation and its 'death-demanding' citizenry !
Yes.. a crime was committed and a life was taken but I cant for the life of me understand how one turns all celebratory and happy-chappy on hearing death being sentence being handed down (ET: its not 'awarded'.. its 'handed') to 2 young people.
Quite sad !
Taking a life for a life is not a solution. Life sentence without parole would have been the solution.
@AliKuliKhan: Bravo. So all those witnesses lied? You need to re-evaluate your morals for supporting killers.
When have we last heard of the death sentence been exercised? Nothings going to happen (-:
@ Babaji,
One of the slips is President. He can pardon and commute the sentences citing ruining of the future of the youngsters!
Dear mr eeman, if this sentence is not carried out, this young bloke will carry out more murders during his life, keeping in mind his feudal background. The buck stops here, justice is served and now the sentence should be carried out. Look what happened, a 17 yr boy shot by a guard escorting a rich kid in karachi's posh area.
@Eeman: Guess who was a young guy with none of his life left ....the victim SHAHZEB.
These punishments are designed to give justice to the victim, as well as being a deterrant to others believing they can do the same and get away with it.
Awarded death sentence ? Since when did Death become an award. Though the judges are esteemed and know what they are doing - death is nothing to celebrate be it of heroes or villians .
Had it not been for this independent judiciary, the corrupt political setup and an equally corrupt police, FIA and bureaucracy would have spared these arrogant murderers to get away with this brutal murder. I salute the judiciary, who alone in Pakistan have performed relatively better.
Opportunity to build a new Pakistan
Hope those in authority do not succumb and squander this opportunity
Good to know that justice is done. But let's see if orders are implemented. President has the power to make changes in the punishment. In this case jatoi family has connections and will be getting things done accordingly by the hands of president before he will leave the office.
Hopefully the order will be implemented & this kind of act will be for all classes either for Elite or for common poor people.
@Eeman
Seriously? There needs to be an example set that no matter where you come from. Politics has already ruined our nation! Wasn't Shahzeb's killing insane?
Sometimes people surprise me with their thinking I swear!
Justice served however i seriously doubt this can be carried out , 2-3 or may be years down the line every one will forget about this incident , rich ones doesn't serve such sentences
Its totally, biased decision. Target killers, and terrorists who killed thousands of people can easily escape courts and jails but again if death sentence is awarded, then it is awarded to two very young sindhis of early 20's. We condemn this. Its is not a justice. Shame to these courts. This was not as it is presented in media. It was just a conflict of youngsters and then leaded to fight. But it was presented totally in a wrong way.
Today we saw powerful Nawab and a rich politically connected feudal's son being convicted and sentenced to DEATH (in words) is Pakistan. We have spoken against the oppressors for once. The Judiciary has taken a bold step in the history of Pakistan. This could not have been possible had Shahzeb's parents, friends and the civil society not put pressure. We are realizing the power of people today. I see hope again!
Hopefully the SHC and the SC will also give him due justice.
Don't forget that there are still the options of Qisas (blood money), pardon by the victim's family, or presidential pardon. Moreover, justice is not "served" just yet. It will be served when the sentence is carried out.
Thank God Finally Justice Served....
Won't they appeal against the decision in High Court and then Supreme Court?
I may be wrong, but I don't think Pakistan has carried out a death sentence since 2008. Dozens of convicts have been on death row since then. This guy would merely be an addition to the list; i.e. if all his appeals are turned down. In other words, a nice wait of years till all of this is sorted out.
I am very happy. This sentence has given me hope for Pakistan. Justice is a beautiful thing.
Kudos to all the good people who protested against the murder and kudos to the court that had the courage to sentence these fiends.
I hope this is the beginning of the "END" of the Feudal System.
@AliKuliKhan: Oh come one...just shut up...
@ET: "Awarded" death sentence - Are you making fun out of that? The accused must be happy with this "Award"! :D
Excellent...............justice half done. The other half will be done when punishment is carried out.
Mark my words: "he. will. be. pardoned."
Finally. Correct decision has been taken. If murderers like Shahrukh Jatoi, are hanged, it will be a shining example for all those who think about themselves as high and mighty and do not consider anyone's life precious.
A wise decision,Indeed!!
Please don't delay their execution otherwise they ll get away.
A wise decision indeed!!
Verdict against Shah Rukh and others is the result of suo moto notice of the case taken by the CJ of the SC, which influenced the entire proceedings. The verdict is the result of ' Power', in this case that of the CJ and not of 'Justice'', as it should have been.Use of such 'power makes the issue of ' getting justice', worst instead of improving it.
To ET: Technically after the suspect is convicted, the shooting is not called "alleged".
Justice would be served in its true sense when the accused would be hanged. The accused would leave no stone unturned to save themselves. Hope that they are hanged and not some poor guys are hanged instead.
Lets see, still president can accept appeal against this decision... we can expect any thing from our lovely president..
Giving out death sentences and carrying them out are two different things.
Now please implement this quickly so the next feudal kid thinks twice before doing the same
That's insane. He's a young bloke with lots of life left. He should've instead be sentenced for life.
thats great news
Good news and this should be implemented as soon as possible
Now All should be done to bring those rangers personnel to justice who killed a civilian only coz he didn't stop his vehicle -
Chief Justice should take notice of that too - inshallah
This is such a good example set by Appex Court. I pray for the victims family to find solace after this judgement
appeal against the decision in higher court, then in next higher court, till we all forget this incident,,, the story goes on........
Alhamdolillah...Amazing news..... Couldnt be happier...the untouchables finally got served the judgement that was long due.... and they had it coming.
Implementation?
Well done!
I don't see this actually happening. He'll get off on a lighter punishment after repeal.
@ET "On December 25, last year, Shahzeb Khan, 20, was gunned down allegedly by Shahrukh Jatoi, who was accompanied by his friends, Siraj and Sajjad Talpur. The young men allegedly had a fight after the Talpur’s servant, Ghulam Murtaza Lashari, teased Shahzeb’s sister."
Why "allegedly"? They are proven convicts now. Please correct this editorial mistake.
wait till they are pardoned by the president!
I think capital punishment is too extreme in modern society. All suspects should be given life imprisonment.
well done, can they challenge this decision?? I hope not.
Justice served.
Murderers must be hanged as early as possible. They might get away if they don't.
May justice be served.
"IF" they are guilty and "IF" they get caught and "IF" Zardari as president doesn't pardon them, then they will be executed.
a good news after a while..now they have to hanged no 'slips' will be acceptable now
This was supposed to happen under current independent and un-influenced judiciary (to a greater extent). We hope now that the guilty guys are actually punished in line with the court's decision. This will definitely make some difference to reduce crime rate in our society. Upper class should get a message from this verdict that they are no more a special class in Pakistan. Tit for tat. Well done everybody involved in this case from the victim's side.
However!
Justice at last....hope the hanging is done quickly
Justice served. We hope they will serve quick justice to 7 years beggar girl who was thrown into fire for asking for food. We also hope that justice will be served to families of all missing persons.
Awesome! Some good news!
Well-Done court!
I doubt it still ... there are too many slips yet between the cup and the lips !!!!
Excellent.
Justice well served!!
well done judiciary.
So far so good. Lets hope higher courts keep the original verdict...justice should be done.
and they said justice is unavailable, if you do justice with others, you will get justice too..
i was thinking that poor Shahzeb will never get justice.
Bravo!
Feuds do anything or whatever you want but never mess with a bureaucracy.
Justice Served
Bravo Pakistani Judiciary !! India should take a leaf out of Pakistan's book. This is indeed a historic judgement that could pave the way for equality in the eyes of the law. The young man - Shahzeb may not come back but at least his family can console themselves that justice was done.
When justice is served, the world seems so beautiful. I'd pray this was the right decision and all the criminals in this country get their 'rightful' punishment. Ameen.
Best news of the year. Time to set the clock right. All should be equal before the law. Now the appeal judges should follow through on the sentences to show that they care.
Justice Served - Atlast
Not a proponent of the death penalty, but the untouchable feudals had this coming.
Finally !!!
Indeed in this land of unjust there still reamins a bleak hope for justice ...
All hail to the Justice Served!
Finally Justice has done with Shahzaib Khan.. and hope this will continue
time for another appeal to prolong the matter...
Verdict given by the court under the influence of the Supreme Court. This is not justice.
Finally, Justice prevailed, now it should be implemented too, and the culprits must be hanged !
