Young doctors at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) have given a 48-hour ultimatum to the hospital administration to get the gas connection to male doctors’ hostel restored which had been disconnected since June 1.
The gas connection to the hostel has been cut by the Sui gas company due to non-payment of an outstanding bill amounting Rs0.8 million.
The doctors have threatened not to turn up to
duties if the gas connection to the hostel was not restored.
Young Doctors Association (YDA) member, Dr Mohammad Haroon, said that over 400 doctors were residing in the hostel and they were facing hardships without the gas facility.
“We have decided to go on strike, if the issue is not resolved within 48 hours,” he said.
Meanwhile, Pims Administrator Dr Iqbal Memon said, “We are short of funds right now as our payments are stuck with some departments. We have requested the Sui gas authorities to restore the connection.”
Memon hoped that the gas connection will be restored by Friday (today).
