KARACHI: Since his arrest in February by the Federal Investigating Agency (FIA), Shahrukh Jatoi, the prime suspect in the Shahzeb Khan murder case, has failed to appear before the court dealing with his escape from Pakistan to the United Arab Emirates.
The jail authorities told the court that the suspect couldn’t be produced on the dates of the hearing as he was facing a trial in the Anti-Terrorism Court on a daily basis.
Even though the final charge sheet was submitted on March 16, Shahrukh has yet to appear before the judicial magistrate, Malir, Hasan Ali Kalhwar.
A case, No. 26/13, under section 419 and 109 of the Pakistan Penal Code read with sections 3/4 and 6(1) of Passport Act, 1974, was registered against Shahrukh and other suspects at the FIA AHT Circle.
Shahrukh, with the help of a travel agent at Fazl-e-Rabbi Pvt Ltd, Sohail Ahmed, and directors of the company, Muhammad Omer Dochki and Muhammad Abu Bakar Dochki, managed to get an air ticket from Karachi to Dubai under the name of Syed Shahrukh instead of Shahrukh Sikandar, revealed the charge sheet.
The two people who accompanied Shahrukh on the flight were allegedly assisted by two officials - Mahmood Sultan, a baggage attendant, and Wasi Akhtar, a passenger services assistant.
The investigating officer had told the court that Mahmood Sultan, Wasi Akhtar, Nawab Ali Jatoi and Muhammad Khurram did not obtain Shahrukh’s immigration clearance on purpose to hide his identity and managed to get him through the gate meant only for staff.
The hearing of the case has been fixed for June 19 and jail authorities have been issued orders for presenting the suspects before the court.
Meanwhile, the Anti-Terrorism Court reserved the verdict in the Shahzeb murder case on Monday till June 7 after hearing arguments from all the counsels in the murder trial.
