KARACHI:

As reshuffling in the country’s sports circles continues, the general council of the Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) sacked Doda Khan as president, levelling several charges against the top official.

According to the media release issued by the PBF, the decision was taken at an emergency meeting held in Sialkot on the sidelines of the National Boxing Championship final yesterday.

The house also sacked Iqbal Hussain as vice-president of the federation.

“The step has been taken due to serious violation of PBF’s laws,” read the media release. “It includes corruption charges, misguiding and misleading boxing personalities with support from (banned Pakistan Olympic Association president) Arif Hassan.”

The general council has now referred the case to the disciplinary committee to consider a lifetime ban on both terminated officials.

Meanwhile, Colonel Qaiser Mustafa was unanimously nominated and approved as the Acting President of PBF.

“We will hold the PBF elections before June 28 as per Sports Policy 2005,” said PBF Secretary Akram Khan.

“The election held last December was bogus and there is a dire need of fresh elections so that the boxing activities may resume soon at the national and international levels.”

Meanwhile, Doda could not be approached for his comments despite several attempts to contact him.
