Child labour: Provinces agree to revise laws

In the context of the 18th Amendment, the enactment and enforcement of labour laws lies with provincial governments.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of a four-day workshop organised by the International Labour Organization (ILO), officials of the Ministry of Human Resource Development and Provincial Labour Departments said that all provincial labour departments had agreed on preparing a concrete action plan to revise legislations regarding child and bonded labour and subsequent actions.


These action plans would be spread over three months to two years and will include steps to strength the capacity of labour inspection, awareness creation, improved reporting for policy actions, and computerisation of the labour inspection system.

Speaking on the occasion, Additional Secretary In-Charge Ministry of Human Resource Development, Abdul Khaliq said that in context of the 18th Amendment, the enactment and enforcement of labour laws lies with provincial governments.
