Farid had won the PK-42 (Hangu-I) seat as an independent candidate and had then joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
The MPA was shot dead near his residence close to Singair village, when unidentified armed men opened fire at his vehicle. Police said his driver and bodyguard sustained injuries in the gun attack.
Soon after the incident, security forces reached the crime scene and cordoned off the area.
Police officials said Mufti Hamid, of a local Taliban group in Hangu has been arrested in connection with the murder. He has been shifted to an unknown location.
Farid had won the elections as an independent candidate with 16,129 votes. His closest rival was Atiqur Rehman of the Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) who got 12,797 votes.
When Farid joined PTI, he had said he did so for the social welfare and goodwill of the area.
Farid also reportedly asked elders of the region if they had any reservations regarding his decision, but they agreed with his choice.
As an independent candidate, Farid said he would not be able to work for the development of the area the way he would be able to by associating himself with a political party that is in power. “People have given me their votes, and now I have an opportunity to serve them,” he added.
According to a report published in The News, Farid had only Rs100 in his pocket at the time he filed his nomination papers and his supporters ran his election campaign.
“I don’t consider myself a good politician. I am an active social worker though,” he had said.
He added that restoration of peace in K-P and the tribal areas was his big dream.

This is tragic. Also disappointed to see MQM supporters' childish comments here. This tragic incident does not exonerate MQM from its crimes in any way. If this had happened in Karachi, MQM would be a prime suspect because of its track record.
Very sad incident. To whatever extent PTI goes to win hearts and minds of terrorists, these monsters will never show any mercy. The best they would do is to put PTI at bottom of the hit list.
Its time for PTI to arrest the culprits and let the people see how justice is done.

@gp65: Thanks for your comment. I made the statement as a reflection on how legitimate representatives of the people are being murdered. More so that people who could never win voter confidence are now undermining the democratic process. It was not my intention to applaud a murder. Hope this clarifies.
Very sad to hear about his death. However accounts of his poverty are a bit hard to digest. If he could win an election as an independent and had a corolla and a driver and body guard, he might not be very rich but still plastic ki juti and Rs 100 story doesn't math. Itna bhi ghareeb nahin the bichara. Allah maghfarat karen.
There was an arrest in the case so now its PTI CM's turn to push police to help justice system bring the culprit to the task- justice should be swift and visible, once that happens, I am sure 100s of goons will be careful before committing such acts

Well, things have started happening on the expected lines as they are now targeting those who were spared before the elections and same was predicted by me on ET. TTP is friend of nobody who is bent upon enforcing its twisted ideology through violent methods and spares no one who comes in their path. Though TTP fight is with the state but worst part is that they are killing innocent civilians for furtherance of their objective justifying their barbarities. There are some similarities between LTTE and TTP ie Prabhakran the LTTE chief was rigid in his stand, wanted to achieve his goal through violent methods and rejected political solutions offered by the govt but unlike TTP he never killed his own people. The Sri Lankan govt took the right decision to use full might of its military and eliminated LTTE for good. The new govt who wants to do a negotiated settlement can do at its own peril which may only end up in disaster and more innocent lives shall be lost but the last resort would be the military solution on the lines of Srilanka.
He was an ex-member of SSP and allegedly said that he has only Rs.150 left in his pocket at the time of his nomination papers and had vowed to eradicate Shias from Hangu.

Though the news do not give the details about the person killed,but one can infer from the little description given of him,that he was a man who wanted to serve his people in earnest.If such innocent and honest people keep getting killed like this,then we do not need no enemies.We are self sufficient in self-destruction.God bless

You normally make good points. This did not match your usual high standards. If PTI politicians were the only target your statement would be true. But you cannot be unaware about how brutally ANP was targetted in the lead up to the election. People who do not believe in democracy are targetting democratically elected representatives - that is how I see this.

He was not from PTI. He was an independent candidate. TTP do not attack PTI. PTI is pro Taliban.
RIP Farid, my condolences to the bereaved family, When would we Pukhtuns see the light of the day, people should disagree but killing some one for doing some thing different is uncalled for. I hope PTI will see to it as they have promised to up grade the education in KP, education is the only remedy for this kind of barbaric behavior. I wonder what kind of people are they who can't tolerate the democratic set up in their province.

I am from Hangu and i know that Shias were against him as he has some links with Sipha Sahaba.
