PPP had nominated Mirpur Khas’ Nawab Yousuf for the speaker’s post. Ghulam Rasool Koreja, elected from Rahim Yar Khan, was contesting for the post of deputy speaker.
Contesting candidates submitted their nomination papers on Sunday, which were declared valid after scrutiny.
Four political parties had nominated candidates for the positions of speaker and deputy speaker, PPP, Pakistan Tehreek-e- Insaf (PTI), PML-N and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).
PPP has 39 members in the National Assembly, whereas PTI has a strength of 35 seats. A total of 23 members from MQM will sit in the house.
According to sources, PPP wanted to give PML-N a chance to bring an unopposed speaker, deputy speaker and leader of the house. However, their plan failed as PTI and MQM were not in favour of the move, forcing the former ruling party to field its own candidates for the posts.

'Friendly' move by PPP that was being supported by PTI (as per the statements by PML(N) before election)
Could ET pls name the nominated candidates, so that the reader can judge their suitability for the job, in terms of their educational background and political credibility and see which party has pitched the most qualified individuals
A certain Imran Khan had already told us of the Muk Muka of this asooli siasat ages ago. Zadari once said "Nawaz Sharif will be my Prime minister". What a farce and shameful moment for the poor people of Pakistan who would be made to suffer by the 2nd side of the same coin.
Friendly opposition......................heard that one before.
Thank to PPP for showing its real face. Now it is clear that PMLN and PPP are one coin two sides.
Why dont we all say yes to eveything PMLN says does and says and forget about debates in Parliament House as well. what you should have done is get together with opposition parties and agreed to a single challenger to each posts and then have a one to one election on suitable winner. That would define a opposition, otherwise pack your bags and go home.
The maturity and good manner of peoples party is becoming obvious every day PPP has strengthened democracy at its own cast.
Thanks for showing the decency and dignity of a losing party and accepting the mandate of the winner. People have spoken loud and clear and let us respect their wishes for the next five years. This is the way mature people should act rather than contest elections even in sure defeat.
