Tank: Peace committee member killed, another injured

The men were gunned down by unidentified motorcycle riders in Tank.

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A member of an aman laskhar was killed and another injured when two unidentified motorcycle riders opened fired on them in Tank on Sunday morning, according to a Saddar police station official.

Tank Peace Committee member Hayatullah Burki was killed and Noman Khan Gandapur, another member, got injured when they came under fire at Durand Gate, a busy market in Tank.

Noman Khan Gandapur was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital Tank and later on referred to the District Headquarters Teaching Hospital DI Khan.

The injured Noman lodged an FIR against unidentified perpetrators at the Saddar police station.

The report stated Hayatullah Burki was travelling in his Toyota pickup while Noman followed on a motorcycle. When they reached Durand Gate, the armed riders gunned them down and fled.

Hayatullah died on the spot. It was also mentioned in the FIR both victims were members of the Tank Aman Lashkar.

The Tank Peace Committee was formed at a time when the Taliban influence was increasing in the district through its proximity to Waziristan. However, the lashkar faces less support from the government and members are often targeted.
