A local leader of a religious party who was assassinated previous day was laid to rest amid protests here on Sunday. Hundreds of people attended the funeral prayers of the slain Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan general secretary Muhammad Daud Mustafai. He was killed allegedly by landgrabbers on Saturday. His relatives and followers held a protest soon after the funeral prayers at his ancestral village.
They raised slogans, demanding arrest of the killers and also blocked the Rawalpindi-Kohat road.
Addressing the protesters, Pir Syed Farooqul Islam, Pir Syed Hussein Shah, former member of National Assembly, Sardar Shah Nawaz Khan, representative of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf Malik Sohail Khan, general secretary Shia Ulema Council Arif Hussein Wahidi and Abdul Islam Naqvi demanded the local council management to stop backing the terrorists and make necessary arrangements for the arrest of the suspects.
Meanwhile, the relatives of the slain leader took the body to Mathial Chowk, where they set alight a toll plaza on the main highway. They also put on fire a nearby police station.
