Tennis: Sawani reaches U18 semis

KARACHI:

Raza Sawani cruised into the boys’ under-18 singles semi-finals of the Indus Pharma Open National Juniors and Seniors Championship 2013 at Karachi Gymkhana yesterday.

Sawani defeated Muzammil Murtaza 6-0, 6-4, while Ibrahim Iltifat outclassed Shahab Gul 6-1, 6-1 in the under-18 singles second round match. However, Murtaza made amends and booked his place in the quarter-finals of the boys’ under-14 event when he defeated Noor-e-Mustafa 6-0, 6-1. In the girl’s under-18 category, Hania Naveed won her semi-final against Kinza Ghanchi 6-2, 6-1. Muhammad Shabbir defeated Asad Ali Bhagat 7-5, 6-4 in the second round match of the plus 35 singles event.
