The decision was taken late Saturday night after the rejection of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) request of electing Sharif unanimously as it happened after the 2008 elections.
Earlier on Saturday, PML-N's parliamentary party officially nominated Nawaz Sharif for Prime Minister.
The election for the Prime Minister slot will take place in the National Assembly on June 5.

What a selective memory of the commenters above, praising mr fahim as almost the second coming. Here is a link from this very newspaper and there are dozens more: http://tribune.com.pk/story/171912/fia-to-question-amin-fahim-in-nicl-scam-case/ Part of the problem with this country is that we seem to forget all wrongdoings very easily ( also witnessed in re-election of sher sahib and his bro) We deserve the situation we are in
That's what happens to the loyal party worker. They only get nominated when there is no chance of getting the post. Jiye Zardari
The largest landlord cum warlord in Asia shoul be the last choice of any party
Cheap politics by PPP and an empty gesture for Amin Fahim. For someone as brilliant at politics as President Zardari, he makes the silliest of mistakes (remember the fiasco of restoring the judges?). In the spirit of reconciliation and cooperation, PPP should help unanimously elect Nawaz Sharif as the PM.
@Mohammad Ali Sidduqui: You are absolutely right in your analysis. But the problem with non-Bhutto, non-Zardari leaders of the PPP is that they are mental slaves of these two families. This humiliation of being nominated for P.M. at this time serves Mr. Fahim right. Siddique Malik, Louisville, Kentucky, USA.
The poor guy should have become the PPP leader after the assassination of Benazir Bhutto. But her husband hijacked the party leadership, becoming its god. Now all Amin Fahim gets to do is to imagine for a day or two that he might become prime minister. Of course, he won't. The party has paid heavily for Zardari's high-handedness. There is still time for members like Amin Fahim, Aitazaz Ahsan, etc. to rescue the party from the clutches of Asif Zardari, before it become totally irrelevant. Siddique Malik, Louisville, Kentucky, USA.
Twice when PPP had the votes to elect a PM,they prefered other candidates to him.He should decline to stand and be humiliated.
Amin Fahim is a Javed Hashmi of PPP.
what the point to put a dead horse in derby race?
After PPP being white-washed from the mainstream politics almost forever.
They always do this Amin Fahim he's the most deserving and whenever PPP doesn't have numbers he is their candidate and whenever they do he is sidelined. Quite Sad. They do this with him on CM Sindh post and PM post almost all the time.
PPP should be shameful for their worst ever government in the history of Pakistan if this time they do not make any development in Sindh then they will nowhere to be seen.
well done PPP this is most honest person left in your party to name for prime minister ship who said I do not know how these millions of rupees came in my account. That is pretty pathetic.
Makdhoom Amin Faheem was supposed to be the Prime Minister after the assassination of BB but Mr. Zardari made Syed Yiusuf Raza Gilani Prime Minister.
So what happened the after the verdict of the Supreme Court, Gilani stepped down. Even at that time Mr. Zardari would have made Makhdoom Amin Faheen Prime Minister of Pakistan, but he made Raja Pervez Ashraf, PM of Pakistan for the left over period.
Now Mr. Zardari knows very well that in view of the majority of seats win by the PML(N) and joining of the independent candidates, Mr, Nawaz Sharif will surely be elected as the third time Prine Minister, Mr. Zardari has nominated the name of Makhdoom Amin Faheem when every one in the country who have very slight political acumen knows very well that Makhdoom Amin Faheem cannot win the Prime Minister election in the National Assembly.
Had I been nominated as the contestant of Prime Minister's post at this point, I would have refused Mr. Zardari by saying that now I am not interested to go and face Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif in the National Assembly, having known that I just cannot win the election, I would have refused to contest the election of PM ship.
A decision five years too late.
Certainly there is no possibility of him getting elected thats why they have nominated him. He is one man who has suffered the most Benazirs death. Also he or someone from his family deserved to be nominated as CM Sindh. He is serving PPP unconditionally since 1969.
