Crime round-up: One killed, nine others arrested

Anti-Violent Crime Cell kills alleged kidnapper.

An alleged kidnapper was killed when the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) police raided the kidnappers’ hideout in Gulshan-e-Maymar.


According to AVCC officials, the kidnappers opened fire at the police convoy as they reached the site. In the ensuing exchange of fire, one kidnapper was shot dead while four others managed to escape under the cover of fire. Police rescued the abductee, Dr Saleem Khokhar, who had been kidnapped from his residence in Liaquatabad on May 29. Separately, the Special Investigation Unit police claim to have arrested three members of a gang involved in extortion and other criminal activities. SIU chief, SSP Farooq Awan, said that the group had received millions of rupees in extortion money from traders by scaring them with hand grenade attacks at heir homes.
