Chairman National Highway Authority (NHA) Hamid Ali Khan on Friday informed the Senate Standing Committee on Communications and Postal Services that the USAID has expressed its intention to provide $90 million for additional works to complete Kalat-Quetta-Chaman highway.
The committee met with Senator Daud Khan Achakzai in the chair at the Parliament House. Khan said that completion works would include a flyover at Kuchlac, a bypass for Chaman and doubling the lanes on the last 1.5 kilometer stretch of the road up to the Afghan border.
He said the United States government has released $40 million to USAID as a first tranche for commencement of works. According to the chairman the Frontier Works Organization is expected to commence work on the project by August 2013, adding that every step would be taken to complete work in the stipulated period of time. The committee directed the NHA to complete the projects in Balochistan as soon as possible.
