In the line of duty: Officials injured while defusing grenade

SUKKUR: Four policemen, including an inspector of the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS), were wounded while defusing a hand grenade at Kashmore police station on Friday evening.

According to reports, Kashmore police found a hand grenade from Ellahi Bux Khoso village.

Bomb disposal Squad official, Irshad Ahmed Soomro, was called in from Shikarpur to defuse the bomb.

The bomb, however, exploded as the officials were attempting to neutralise it.

Four police officials, Shikarpur BDS inspector, Irshad Ahmed Soomro, ASI Khan Muhammad Brohi, assistant head constable, Muhammad Panjal Chachar and police constable, Imdad Ali Malik, were injured as a result.

According to police sources, Irshad had successfully separated the detonator from the hand grenade when it went off.

Shikarpur BDS incharge, Baddrudin Sheikh told The Express Tribune that the police officials received minor injuries as only the detonator had gone off, while the grenade was still intact.
