Dispensing justice: ATC sentences three men to 35 years

The court also ordered to confiscate the property of the accused besides imposing a fine of Rs20,000 each.

KARACHI: An Anti-Terrorism Court sentenced three men to 35 years in prison on Thursday after the prosecution established charges of kidnapping for ransom, police encounter and possession of illegal weapons.

The court also ordered to confiscate the property of the accused besides imposing a fine of Rs20,000 each. Judge Bashir Ahmed Khoso sent Hussain Bux, Sardar Khan and Waheed Bux to prison for kidnapping Saeed Ahmed on June 9, 2010 and demanding a ransom of Rs7 million.

The three men were arrested from Gulistan-e-Jauhar after a joint operation by the police and Citizens-Police Liaison Committee on June 25, 2010.

A case was registered against them under section 365 (A) and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Saddar police station.

They were awarded life imprisonment for kidnapping for ransom and five years each for police encounter and possessing illegal weapons.

The judge granted them the benefit, considering their period of detention during trial under section 382-B.
