GUJRANWALA: At least 60 per cent of school vans in Gujranwala are running without fitness certificates and route permits, The Express Tribune has learnt. A Regional Transport Authority survey taken last week revealed that 60 per cent of the 4,000 school vans in the district lack fitness certificate and are being run unnoticed by the motor vehicle examiners and traffic police. As many as 270 vehicles have been impounded and cases registered against owners of 150 since the release of survey on Tuesday. RTA Secretary Iftikhar Hussain Baloch told The Express Tribune that van drivers had taken their vehicles off roads with summer vacations starting early at some schools. He said notices had been issued to schools in this regard.
