Darawat dam: Lack of funds halts construction

Construction of the main dam was 99% complete, whereas overall progress of the project was 74% complete, says official

According to the Ministry of Water and Power, work on Darawat Dam has been halted due to shortage of funds.


The statement said that the Planning Commission had released Rs910 million against the Public Sector Development Projects’ allocation of Rs2 billion for 2012-13. Rs1.19 billion has not yet been released, forcing construction work to stop.

An official of the ministry said that construction of the main dam was 99% complete, whereas overall progress of the project was 74% complete.

The official said that a total of Rs4 billion was required to complete the project within the stipulated time and settle liabilities of Rs1.5 billion.
