Completion ceremony: Tribesmen deprived of basic rights, says PHC CJ

Despite having representation in parliament, people from tribal areas are deprived of basic rights.

People from the tribal areas are still deprived of their basic rights, despite having representation in parliament, said Peshawar High Court (PHC) Chief Justice (CJ) Dost Muhammad Khan.

Public representatives from the tribal areas legislated for the rest of the country, but could not do the same for the areas where they were elected from, CJ Khan said on Thursday as he addressed judicial officers at the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Judicial Academy.

This was after the chief justice distributed completion certificates for the course on the right to fair trial and female rights in Islam.

Chief Justice Dost Muhammad Khan said women were respected in our society and Islam also stressed on giving females their rights. Women were respected more in Pakistan as compared to countries in the West, he added.

According to the PHC chief justice, the judiciary was being blamed for interfering in government affairs because it had been making efforts to rectify several issues.
