HYDERABAD: Mirpurkhas police foiled a bid on Wednesday to blast the railway track connecting India and Pakistan through the Khokhrapar border.

A suspect, identified as Abdul Razzaq Brohi, was apprehended near the track used by Thar Express train.

Police seized a rickshaw, a gas cylinder and other materials which were to be used in the explosion, said SP Noman Siddiqui.

Later, a search operation was conducted in Misbah Colony, however, no other suspects were arrested.

An FIR was registered against Brohi under the Anti-Terrorism Act sections 6 and 7 at Mehmoodabad police station and the court remanded him to a five-day judicial custody.

According to Siddiqui, the suspect is believed to be a member of the Sindhu Desh Liberation Army who has claimed responsibility for a string of attacks on railway tracks in the last seven years.
