The Islamabad High Court on Tuesday restrained Pakistan Cricket Board Zaka Ashraf from performing his duties as the board’s chief.
Admitting former coach of Army cricket team Major (retd) Ahmed Nadeem Suddle’s petition, Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui ordered the suspension of Ashraf till June 13.
Suddle’s counsel, advocate Muhammad Faiz Ahmed said his client “believes the entire election was undemocratic, unconstitutional and based on malafide intentions.”
Justice Siddiqui observed that the “entire election appeared to be polluted and elections are not transparent.”
The court issued notices to Ashraf and sought his comments in one week.
Suddle requested the IHC to call for re-elections so former cricketers could also contest them.
The leadership of the incoming government of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz was not pleased with the election process either.
“The PML-N leadership isn’t at all happy with how Zaka has assumed power,” an official working closely with the party’s leadership told The Express Tribune.
“It was like a daylight robbery that Zaka held PCB’s election just a few days before the elections of Pakistan because he knew that he won’t be able to remain at the helm if the new government came,” he said.
