The Sindh High Court chief justice, Mushir Alam, nominated three retired district and sessions judges on Tuesday to head the election appellate tribunals set up by the election commission to hear pleas on rigging.
The nomination of the retired judges - Zafar Khan Sherwani, Muhammad Ashfaq Baloch and Zahiruddin S. Leghari - came after the election body dissolved three tribunals on Monday after a petition in the high court against the previous tribunals.
Earlier, the ECP had constituted the tribunals to decide the cases on rigging and other violations of the election laws.
Since the high court’s chief justice was not consulted on the appointment of the retired judges, which is a mandatory requirement, the tribunals were dissolved. SHC registrar Abdul Malik Gaddi said the three names have been given to the election commission.
