PESHAWAR:

Hundreds of students thronged to an information technology (IT) job fair held at Deans Trade Centre Peshawar on Tuesday.

A large number of students with backgrounds in various fields turned up to gain awareness and look for jobs.

Sponsored by the IT Board of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government, and organised by Gravity IT Solutions, around 82 national and multinational companies along with various educational institutions arranged stalls to inform, educate and guide students.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Muhammad Daud Khan, a legal advisor for the K-P government IT Board, said the region lacked such events due to the law and order problems. “Decreasing unemployment is our main target and we decided to push through with the event in this regard,” he added.

“We have received more than 100 CVs so far from students with IT backgrounds,” said Muhammad Tahir, a senior web developer at Gravity IT Solutions.

“I came from Lahore to set up a stall,” said Adnan Khan, an official from AutoSoft Dynamics. “For students, such activities are necessary as they increase awareness about job options. We have received 70 CVs so far and will conduct online tests and interviews for short-listed candidates in a couple of days.”

Usman Ahmad, an official from Rozee.pk, said the youth seemed motivated and the event had boosted the morale for students in a variety of fields.

“I am hopeful for a better future and this job fair is helpful in giving guidelines for the future,” said Uzma Tabassum, a computer science student.

Companies and educational institutions that had set up stalls at the event included Asus Computers, Rozee.pk, Netsol Technologies, ABC Solutions, AutoSoft Dynamics, Islamia College University, Rahman Medical Institute, and the University of Peshawar.

The job fair is set to continue till
May 30.
