Police and bomb disposal officials said that up to three kilogrammes of explosives had been planted in a motorcycle and detonated using a remote control. The vehicle was parked near the Imambargah Sakhi Munawar Shah. The explosion was powerful enough to destroy the windows of nearby buildings.
The explosion forced some people to fall in to the nearby canal.
Police officials have secured the blast area. Investigations and a search opeartion are underway.
The injured have been shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital where at least three of the injured are described to be in a critical condition.
A large number of relatives of the dead and injured reached the hospital.
Deputy Commissioner Peshawar Javed Marwat told the media that at this point they do not know what the target of the bomb was but they were conducting a search operation in the area.
Prime Minister Mir Hazar Khan Khoso has strongly condemned the blast and directed authorities concerned to provide the best available medical assistance to those injured in the blast.
Targeting Shia community?
Though the Peshawar deputy police commissioner said that the target of the bombing was unknown, SP City Khalid Hamdani believed that the resident Shia community could have been targeted.
Hamdani added that security is present at the Imambargah, however, the attackers used the cover of darkness to plant the explosives-laden motorcycle close to the building.

@Adnan Khan: LeJ is the punjabi militant arm of TTP! Don't you know that? When GHQ was attacked by TTP, the military flew in Malik Ishaq of LeJ fame to reason with the attackers. The SL cricket team attack was carried out by LeJ militants under TTP direction as well. Get real.
I'm shia from peshawar and i blame american and afghan gov for this attack who control these activities across the border, pak army is blindly killing our own people on america's hint, mushi had done the damage way back only way to get out of this seize the afghan border and thats impossible.

Libya too have seen bloodbath of Muslims by Muslims. Really? Isn't LeJ the same entity that was a part of the Difa-E-Pakistan Council, where there were great peace stalwarts like Hafiz Saeed and Rasheed Sheikh and representatives from the great Imran Khan's party called as PTI?
Those who are always asking for drone strikes to stop should realize that these types of bombings shall increase dramatically as soon as the drone strikes stop. Please don't tell me that these bombers are relatives of unintentional victims of drone strikes. US and West is not going to care much as to what happens in the region once they vacate. It is in the interest of Pakistan and Afghanistan that they openly call for US and NATO assistance to wipe out these terrorists completely before their forces vacate the region. Later, it would become impossible for Pakistan or Afghanistan to control these terrorists and the terrorists shall take over both countries. However hard I try to think, I am totally unable to understand the sympathy for these terrorists in a section of the population of Pakistan and Afghanistan. If only Pakistan and Afghanistan openly and wholeheartedly support US and NATO efforts to wipe out these terrorists, US and NATO can do the job very effectively.
