IHC stops Zaka Ashraf from working as PCB chariman
Appointment of Ashraf was illegal: Petitioner's advocate
ISLAMABAD:
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) restrained the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Muhammad Zaka Ashraf from working, on Tuesday.
The IHC decision was based on a petition filed by former coach of the Army cricket team, Major (Retd) Ahmed Nadeem who had challenged the appointment of Ashraf in the recent PCB elections.
Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui passed the restraining order and issued notices to the Secretary Sport board, Secretary Ministry of Inter Provincial and Chairman PCB to receive their comments in a week.
Advocate Muhammad Faiz Ahmed arguing for the petitioner said that the Board of Governors (BOG) was not properly constituted because Punjab is not represented. This made the BOG meeting on May 5 illegal.
Ahmed told the court that the respondents did not follow the proper procedure of elections therefore the appointment of Ashraf is illegal.
“It is based on mala fide intent and a pick and choose policy of respondents” he added.
He requested the court accept his petition and restrain the Chairman PCB from working. Ahmed also requested the court declare the nomination committee illegal and pass re-election orders.
